Once one get the Licence Code, installation manual says to enter the six-character License Code using the "KNOB". What is meant by "knob"?

As I know, there are Buttons and Joisticks.

May I insert the numbers of the License Code by pressing buttons like  the sqwawk code on the transponder, or do I have to use the Joystick?  

Dont know what "knob"means.

It's those round things at the bottom both sides of screen, can be joystick as well ;)
