SV transponder on which bus

Should I connect my SV transponder to the main bus (along with the skyview) or to my avionics bus. Initially I planned to use the avionics bus but then I wasn't sure if it (the transponder) needed to be powered the same time as the main display. the main display is of course on the main bus.
