All,

I'm about to pull the trigger on ADS-B out.  I currently have a Skyview system (SV-GPS-250 puck and the SV-ADSB-470 module to get weather) with Garmin 430W and GTX327 transponder using a Bob Archer antenna mounted in the tail of my Sportsman.  Reading the most recent installation manual on the SV-XPNDR-261, I have a few questions:

First, the GPS data will be connected from the 430W directly to pin 3 of the -261 unit, with the resistor, but the words in the manual suggest that the 430W must have the most recent software update.  What happens if that is not the case.  I use the 430W pretty much just for a comm radio and a back-up GPS (it is installed incase I get an IFR ticket in the future).  I have not spent the money to keep the database updated, but the unit was repaired (bad NAV knob) and at that time was updated to the most current software and database (2014).

Second, I assume I'll need to purchase the 15' network cable and a BNC-TNC adapter to plug in the antenna cable I now have installed in the plane.

Last, am I missing anything else?

Thanks for the help!

Looking forward to seeing traffic displayed soon!

I think it is referring to the GNS430W firmware. The firmware has the protocol that supports Dynon XPDR at the correct SIL level. The database is for approaches and terrain on the 430W.

You need version 5 or newer on your 430 or it does not output the data required to be 2020 compliant. Nothing we can do about that. You can install now and wait until closer to 2020 to upgrade if you want. In this case, the GPS-250 is actually a higher quality source.

The Transponder does not use a network cable. It is a serial device. We do sell a transponder install harness.

Thanks. I verified that my 430W has version 5.10 as the main software and 5.0 for the GPS software. Looks like I should be OK. I'll be ordering my SV-XPNDR-261 when you folks are back from Holiday break.

I have this same combination (G430W/XPonder-261) and it works great. Just make sure you set the Garmin 430W RS-232 output to your transponder as ADS-B+ or you will fail your FAA in-flight test.
