Please could someone explain how the system turns on. The shut down and auto reversion to backup battery (air and ground modes) are clearly explained in the manual. However I am unclear about the start up procedure.

Does the system start automatically when it detects aircraft bus voltage or do you have to press a button to start it. Once started can you change from aircraft bus to backup battery power even while the aircraft bus remains powered? Can you start it on the backup battery even when the aircraft bus is not powered?

Thanks

SkyView will start up when "aircraft bus voltage" is applied (at least 10V).

If you have a backup battery installed, after SkyView is fully booted up and operating, if "aircraft bus voltage" is lost, SkyView will continue on backup battery power. If not in flight, SkyView will display a message that it's powering off in 30 seconds, with the option of a button push to continue. If in flight, SkyView will continue to operate on backup battery power, with a message that aircraft power was lost.

There is no option have SkyView "ignore" (not use) "aircraft bus voltage" if it is present.

With no "aircraft bus voltage", you can start SkyView on backup battery power by pushing and holding Button #1.

When SkyView is running, SkyView can be shut down, on battery power or "aircraft bus voltage", by pushing and holding Button #1.

What would be the power procedure if I want to see my engine data right at cranking, before I turn my avionics master? Is it ok to start the engine with the unit powered up?
Also, if I wanted to program a flight plan prior to cranking without turning on the avionics master would I just use button 1?

if you have a backup battery it's all very easy. use the #1 button to start up without the master. add the flight plan.
My panel goes dark when I crank so the skyview backup battery keeps the Skyview can see all the engine information. You absolutely want to have the engine information available, should there be a oil pressure or other issue you would be blind up if you waited for the PFD to come on at startup- the screen should be on during crankup.

And yes, it's OK to have the unit on at power up, on master power. If you don't have the backup battery installed, and the voltage drops low enough during crank, it might restart, but it won't break.
