The manual says winds aloft requires SV-MAG-236

Page 4-20 of the HDX user manual states that the winds aloft calculation will not be displayed if the SV-MAG-236 (optional remote magnetometer) is not functional. Does that mean the remote magnetometer is required for winds aloft (as opposed to the integrated one) or is it a mistake in the manual? I wasn't planning on getting the remote one because my cockpit should have little interference.

So you need magnetic heading to have a winds aloft calculation (it's impossible to do the math without it). That can come from either the ADAHRS's built-in sensors or the remote magnetometer.

But IF you have the remote magnetometer, the ADAHRS's internal magnetic sensors are ignored "permanently" - because they're assumed to be in a bad location. So if you have the magnetometer, and it fails, you won't have a wind indication.

So to be perfectly clear - an ADAHRS all by itself has magnetic sensors, and that (along with GPS and OAT, which are also needed for the calculation) will indeed get you a wind calculation.
