Time for a new backup battery?

Finally powered up my skyview system for the first time today! after having the system on for about an hour playing with this and configuring that, I looked at the backup battery info & it was showing 0.0 volts, and "not connected" (even though it certainly is). A voltmeter across the backup battery itself shows 0.0 volts. I was running off a server power supply which is just over 12 volts, but it not 12.25V. Is my battery toast? It had been laying dormant for many many months and completely unused till today. $180 is a lot for a doorstop.

My first one didn't work either, but only had it a week or two before finding out.  Don't remember what the voltage was.  Dynon replaced under warranty without question. 2nd one has been working for 100+ flying hours without problem....passed the new 6.0 battery test just the other day.  Call Dynon Tech Support, they will help out.

Of course the battery is under warranty and you will not be out $180. However, the system just flat out doesn't charge a battery below 12.25V in, so you won't know until you do that. The battery has a protection circuit that makes it read 0.0V with a voltmeter at times so this is not an indication your battery is broken.

operated the system at 14V today; no luck with the backup battery charging (shows 0.0 volts, charge status= no battery). The system was purchased in Dec of 2010; hopefully it will still be in warranty but we shall see! Thanks for the advice.

So if the battery is "dead", but not necessarily broken, it will shut itself off from the outside world to prevent damage. How long did you leave it on with 14V attached?

Roughly an hour while I played with some sensor settings and screen layouts. The battery is already on it's way back to Dynon under an RMA issued this morning for an exchange. Thanks to Mike H for makin' it easy for me.
