Traffic Confusion

I have 10" Skyview - V13 software, 262 transponder - SW02.06, 250 gps. Just installed Stratux dual channel system for my iPod.

I thought my SV system, 1090 ES out triggered each in range ground station. I see in the FlyQ EFB that the ground stations have reported.

I'm confused that I've seen visually several traffic A/C with nothing on the iPad or Dynon. I've also seen traffic on the Dynon much before on the iPad. I also see UAT traffic on the iPad/Stratux just as I had hoped.

Is this because of not being 91.227 compliant? Just poor reception on the Stratux antenna? Would a 978 antenna mounted on the bottom of the fuselage make a big improvement. Should i and how do i revert to SW 02.02?

I just got an FAA ADS-B Aircraft Operation Compliance Report for a flight on 1/13/16, airborne 1090. I got 100% Fail on NACv, SIL, SDA. I think each of these is set to 0 with out the ability to change, correct??

Next to getting an IFR ticket or brain surgery, ADS B is the most confusing topic to come along. I did some searching on the forum, but hear is the question directly.

Do you have the Dynon ADS-B in box?

If not, you have to manually configure the transponder in the setup menu to tell it you have ADS-B in. Without this, the ground stations assume you don't have ADS-B in and don't waste bandwidth on sending you traffic.

If you do have ADS-B IN from Dynon, then where in the USA are you when you see this?

The NACv, SIL, and SDA failures are expected. NACv is a bug in the 2.06 transponder firmware, resolved in 2.08 as part of SkyView V14. The SIL/SDA are due to the use of the GPS-250. These are upgraded to SIL/SDA 1 in v14, but that is still not 91.227 compliant, which requires the SV-GPS-2020 or another certified GPS.

You can't revert to Transponder 2.02. Not sure why you would want to.

The Dynon ADS-B in is really sensitive, so it's not surprising if it gets targets farther away than Stratux.

Thank you Dynon support.

I don't have the Dynon ADSB in.

I just changed the settings to ADSB 978 in.

Will upgrade to V14 today.

Thanks again Dynon, Hope to see you at Sebring.

Installed V14 software and updated my 262 transponder to SW02.08. I assume because I don't have gps2020 i get red 'yes' from an ADS-B Aircraft Operation Compliance Report for: NIC, NACp, SIL, and SDA. Correct?

with then new software and my transponder set to 978 in, i'm seeing lots of traffic (i'm assuming it's all A/C with a transponder) on my stratux/ipad/FlyQ.

With your current system, you're "compliant enough" to receive ADS-B traffic through 2019.

As of 2020, the FAA 2020 ADS-B Out mandate requires:
* High integrity GPS position source for the transponder (Dynon Avionics SV-GPS-2020)
* Class 1 Mode-S / Extended Squitter transponder (Dynon Avionics SV-XPNDR-261)

Your SV-XPNDR-262 is a Class 2 transponder.

Dynon Avionics and Advanced Flight Systems will have three representatives at Sebring. Stop by and say Hi!

Thanks again Dynon, Hope to see you at Sebring.
