Hi, new install with Classic Skyview system, I have wired up the transponder harness as per the pin out diagram. Set up the Skyview and set the transponder to serial port # 1, powered on but I just get "XPNDR FAIL" message under the caution messages. If you go into the transponder setup page it shows as offline, I have set tail number and Hex Code in the aircraft setup page also, cant see anything else to do, any tips or ideas?

One other thing, I am in the UK but purchased the Dynon equipment in the USA, not sure that makes any difference?

What does the serial port information show?. Is there data going backwards and forwards, that is are there data blocks being transmitted and received. I would suspect there could be an issue with the wiring. I bought my 261 from the USA and am using it in NZ so I don’t think there will be a problem with that.

Serial port show TX counter counting but nothing on the RX counter, plus a few error, I changed to serial port # 2 and the results are the same.

Have you connected a gps 2020 if so have you set that up as the GPS source. I notice in the manual that the transponder shows offline where they talk about setting up the GPS source. Provided the wiring is correct and the jumpers are all in place then it has to be a settings issue in my mind.

I have a GPS 250 not the 2020, I am in the U.K. so no need for 2020. I have that connected and it has a GPS lock. Jumpers in place? You mean inside the D25 connector?

I guess that the fact that there is no two way communications says that there could be a wiring issue. If it were me I would be checking the two data wires are showing continuity and they are in the correct pin holes at both ends. Yes those were the jumpers I was referring to. I have to say when I did my 261 addition it just worked after I had set it up on a serial port so I don’t really have much experience in fault finding.
if you can’t get to the bottom of it send Don at Dynon an email he may have some suggestions. Best of luck

Solved it! I presumed the two RX & TX wires on the SKyview and the Transponder are connected, of course the Rx of one should be connected to the Tx of the other... Read the manual carefully.... :)
