I am at the point where i am fitting the panel to my Europa and testing the operation of each item and i have come up with an issue. I have the pilot trim switches on the ray allen stick grip and the co-pilots trim switches on the panel, which are also ray allen. I also have an emergency trim switch with its own power and separate wires to the trim motor. Now both the emergency trim switch and pilot trim switches work as they should do however with the co-pilots trim switch when its pressed, almost like a stabbing action, the trim motor operates for far too long. I have bought a new trim switch so its not the switch at fault. The wiring is as per the diagram in the dyne manual........Any thoughts?

Many thanks Frank

Something's not adding up here. Are you using the SV-AP-PANEL? And how exactly is your emergency switch wired into everything?

We generally wouldn't recommend using an emergency switch like you've wired - the SV-AP-PANEL already has failure circuitry that will allow the pilot switch to continue to operate in a direct pass-through way even if all power to the SV-AP-PANEL is somehow missing and/or other things have gone wrong.

If it's running for 3 seconds, then that's the timeout protection in the system that we have for when you have a stuck switch. So for some reason, the SV-AP-PANEL thinks the switch is still down. This probably points to a weird wiring issue. IE, the system is seeing the button press as a momentary fix to an already-shorted wire, then it shorts again once you release. So first make sure that you don't have a normally closed switch. But admittedly, your description is hard to descifer. A video could help, but you might move the pilot/copiot switch wires on the D-SUB to test your switching, You can also gain some more info by seeing what's going on under the test menu as well.

Even more, unless your emergency switch disconnects the trim from the SV-AP-PANEL, you're actually shorting out things with that backup switch. The outputs of the SV-AP-PANEL are not "open" when not running the motor, they are connected to ground. This is common with many electronic motor controls to bring them to a stop more quickly.

Luckily, the SV-AP-PANEL has overcurrent protection so you don't blow fuses and such, but it's really not designed to be used that way.

Thanks for the reply. My emergency switch is wired directly to the motor, no connections, direct, just incase. When in use I'd pull the CB for the AP panel put power to the switch and I'm good to go. I think this extended action may be due to a bad wiring connection. Looking into it now

Once again many thanks

I have checked my wiring from the trim switch and it has the two trim wires and an earth. The Ray Allen diagram has you put earth and power to the switch but I have only connected the earth. Could this be the problem? An extra earth connection making the AP panel think the switch is stuck on? Have had to come to work now so will remove that earth, check its operation and report my findings.
For someone with limited electrical knowledge like myself it's hard to look at each individual items wiring diagram and then try to integrate it with another component.......but I'm am getting there slowly.

Thanks for the help so far

That's your problem. The Ray-Allen switch needs a pair of isolation diodes to work in this environment. See http://www.rayallencompany.com/RACmedia/instructionsRS2withmods.pdf

VERN-X........You are the man!! I hadn't seen that diagram before. I bought the diodes, wired it up as per the diagram and all is well. Thanks you very much for taking the time to look into and post this solution.
