Turbocharger IntercoolOutlet Temperature Indicator

Hi All,

I would like to monitor the outlet temp of the turbocharger intercooler. That temperature can be anywhere from zero degrees F to 350 F.

The only EMS pins I have left are 19/20 and 36/37.

Does anyone have a recommendation for the temperature sender for this application? Should I go with a OAT sensor, liquid sensor (even though I am measuring air temperature), EGT (even though the temps are really low for a EGT probe), or a CHT sensor (I do not know how I can adapt the CHT probe to the intake manifold.

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

An OAT won't give you the range. Per the engine sensor definition file, oil temp gets up to 300, depending on the sensor, but I'm not positive the characterization of that sensor will be that accurate that high (would need to check with some folks when we're back at the office). An EGT would certainly do the trick though.

We would recommend a J-type thermocouple in this application. We don't sell a probe that is perfect, but any one you can find that is a J-type would work great. Wire this to any spare thermocouple input (there are 14 total) and name it what you want.

If you really want to use a probe Dynon sells, EGT would work, and will still generally have accuracy within 7F at those ranges.

350F is not a range any of our resistive senders is designed for. There are senders in the world that can do that, but you'd need to do your own sensor characterization for the one you used.

Thanks...are all J type sensors created equal or is there something specific to look for in the advertisements?
