Unable to Select NAV and TRK Modes on AP74

I had to replace my Garmin 696 which is panel mounted in my PiperSport after the previous unit died. I ensured my "new to me" 696 has the latest software and navigation databases loaded. After installing it I'm not longer able to select NAV or TRK modes. The wind barb on the D100 EFIS is missing also so the Dynon isn't getting any GPS data. AP works in HDG and TRK as you would expect since there is no GPS signal being sourced. I've removed and installed the 696 twice and it's still not feeding GPS info. There are no menus in the Garmin which would require some sort of set-up, the signal rides on one of the pin connections within the power/data cable. I called Garmin and they said it should be plug and play. I checked the DSAB menu but I think that only lists Dynon appliances.

Before I just assume it's a "bad pin connection" I thought I would ask for advice before taking it the avionics shop which is not real enthused about working on Dynon.

I do not have the 696 manual but you should find a serial output menu, this needs to be set to NMEA or Aviation as per the D100 manual (NMEA and a baud rate of 4800 will do it). I would start there. I would find it hard to believe it is just plug and play.

Thanks, a fellow pilot with the same set-up helped me get to configured. Good to go now.
