Using Garmin 696 for GPS

I configured the 696 several ways using the generic NMEA 9600 / 4800 b output and configured the Skyview (serial-3) properly but I'm getting nothing on the skyview for position.  Nothing is getting received.
Otherwise it's awesome!

Found 2 problems.
1. I had the 696 running on battery so the units did not share a ground - fixed that.
2. Serial port #5 was set to "dynonGPS" - per the manual I disabled and now the map works.

But now it's showing me in southern california even though the Garmin shows the correct location amy ideas?
