Here is my question, I've got an Icom A210 connected to the serial port 4 output from the Skyview. This so I can tune the Icom from the Skyview. I've got the Skyview serial port 4 set to Garmin SL-30, and have the red X on top of my screen. Serial port 4 in is not used because the Icom does not output anything serial. I'm adding a Val Nav 2000 which supposidly outputs serial the same format as the Garmin SL-30. I'm thinking I can connect the Val unit to the serial 4 input on the Skyview. The thing that throws me is the Garmin SL-30 transmits more data than just the nav functions, such as the radio tuned to station. What do you think. Will it work?I know I'll still have the red X on top of the screen, but will I get the HSI & glide slop info from the Nav?

I don't see why that wouldn't work, but you'd give up the ability to tune the VAL remotely, (because you'd be using the tx function to send to the Icom. But, we're actually going to add support for the Icom (where the serial port is used correctly, without the red X). So in the future you can select Icom for one serial port, and then, if the Val truly works like an SL30, just hook that up to another serial port.

The Skyview won't tune the Val anyway, I think, it's a NAV. I don't think the Skyview can tune a NAV right? So I'm not losing anything. I'm out of serial ports that's why I want to do it this way. I've got a Garmin 396 on 1, Dynon transponder on 2, Dynon ADS-B on 3, the Icom on 4, and the Dynon GPS on 5.

We can tune the SL30 (and anything that behaves like it) by looking at a VOR frequency either on the NRST list or its INFO page and hitting the TUNE NAV button. Sends it to the nav radio's sby just like a COM radio.
