I am sure the question has been raised but wanted to confirm. Is the VANS RV capacitive sending unit compatiable with the EMS? Do you need any additional componets to get them to work? I have already bought the EI-FL-2c fuel gauge but would prefer to intergate this function into the EMS.

Thanks in advance for the info. :)

The plates installed into an RV tank don't output anything themselves. They need an external device that measures the capacitance between those plates. The EMS-D10 requires a sender that output a voltage between 0-5V.

Princeton Electronics is the only company we know of that makes capacitive senders with this sort of output. Their full capacitive probe systems can be bought from Aircraft Spruce. If you have installed the Vans plates into the tank that do not have any electronics connected to them, you will need something that converts the capacitance measured across those plates to voltage. We have heard that Princeton Electronics may make a converter that does this conversion too. Here is their direct contact information:

Manty thanks for the info. I have already completed the tanks so am aware that there are no compontents in the tank thus my confusion how the EMS got the nessary data. I will have a look into this further. I have bought the Fuel Computer Vans recomends that comes in a kit. This mut includes the clever bits that measure the change in voltage over the plate. Look forward to ordering the EMS and EFIS package.

I have capacitive probes from Princeton Electronics connected to my EMS D10. These were custom made to be 43" long to fit the fuel tanks in a Jabiru. The electronics are remotely connected to the probes and output the 0-5V that the EMS requires.

I therefore only have a plug connection in the wing root and the electronics are inside the plane for easy calibration. I have only run one calibration and over a period of about 10 refills, the probes-EMS data is repeatable and very accurate.

I would assume that the remote electronics can also plug into the capacitive plates as supplied by Vans.

Blue skies,

Carl.
