This has been asked before but got no reply that I could find...

Page 4-20 and 4-21 of the Skyview HDX Pilot's User Guide Revision E mention this: "When a NAV radio decodes the identifier for a frequency, SkyView displays it in the HSI info area and tries to match the identifier to the same one in its aviation database. When it finds a match, it displays Virtual-DME (non-certified) distance in magenta."

The user guide then goes on to say: "Devices that are connected via ARINC-429 (via the SkyView SV-ARINC-429 ARINC429 interface module), such as the Garmin 430 and the Garmin GTN series, do not decode identifiers, and thus SkyView cannot calculate Virtual-DME for those radios."

But this is obviously old or false info, because my Garmin GTN-650 most definitely decodes the identifiers. Is this something that will be fixed in the much anticipated Skyview software update?

So although those newer radios do decode stations automatically, they don't output that information for external consumption (the legacy SL-30 did, using a different protocol)

When you say those newer radios don’t output that information for external consumption - do you mean specifically Garmin newer nav radios? So for instance an Avidyne idf would export those?

So that's interesting...I don't see that label in the ARINC-429 list for GA, nor in the SV Wiki list, at all. Where does SV get that bit of data from, if it's not coming via 429?

Right now that means none of the ARINC-based connections support the transmission of that data.
