In searching through the forum for discussion of virtual vor, I havent seen this simple thing - maybe I missed it. I have Skyview GPS, no other GPS source or NAV radio. (RV12) So, if Departure tells me "Intercept the 30 deg radial of ABC, track outbound to Victor XX, then direct MNO." Now, the ABC VOR is on my map. Id like to make it send out a searchlight line on the map by selecting it, then by twiddling the right side knob until it was at 30 degrees. Then I fly to that line. Sure, the CDI works and all that but it would be great if the CDI adjustment of the radial also showed graphically on the map.

Showing the Victor airways might be more complicated for us free-map-only users.

I haven't yet been asked to do this, if I was I guess I would currently reply "Unable, can you specify a waypoint or heading instead?"

SkyView does not current support virtual VOR. It's on the wish list.

Can't say I've ever been asked to fly such complex vectors in VFR, especially given that a VFR plane doesn't have to have any NAV equipment on board! Many people seem to want it as a hack to fly inbound on a airport on the runway heading.

I have been a big fan of the Virtual VOR being added to the "next release", however I have discovered that when I plan ahead and setup a manual approach (albeit a RNAV approach) that I can fly to that way point to fly direct to the runway. I needed to make this as a flight plan manually before taking off however. The flip is that I have found that it would be great to find a spot at a valley between mountains and fly direct to that point, while flying, same thing when setting up for a new airport and needing to reach a certain point to get setup for runway heading.
I have flown without it all this time but it sure would be nice to see it in the "next release", I know there is a large following for this "hack".

Dynon support - understand. I haven't gotten such a clearance either when flying VFR - I was remembering my IFR trips. I have never seen a Skyview map page when a VOR nav box was connected to the system. For that case, and for a virtual VOR presentation, I was just thinking that the VOR on the map view should be showing the selected radial as a line on the map. Does it do that now if you connect a NAV or does such a connection only affect the HSI element?

What your asking for is an extended center line of the runway? ::)

The centerline of the runway but also more. An actual point along a route to fly direct to that is not on any chart as well.
An example - 4 miles west of a VOR there is a valley, VOR situated on the highest point on a mountain. I want to fly to that point and continue. Today I do it in my preflight, but I have found that I have been in the middle of a flight and need to divert around weather and wish I could set a point to fly to without needing to it do myself. I figure why not get all the help available, if it's available. It is not a luxury today, but I see a real benefit for a virtual VOR.
As mentioned previously, I setup a user point on the centerline of my airport and using the FPl fly direct to the initial point on. A manual RNAV approach. But to your point, that is only for my airport a VOR for an extended centerline to any airport would be excellent!

A Virtual VOR at the start end of a runway and the Radial being that of the runway heading will get you there every time. Extending the centre line will be even better from an interception point of view.

Sorry to disappoint, but Virtual VOR or extended runway lines will not be in the next release, but some other neat features will be.
