While we're not GTN instructors, tracking a VOR with SkyView is pretty straightforward. First, you'll want to make sure that you've got your SkyView's HSI set to the GTN's NAV radio. How that is named on the info widget right next to the HSI will depend on how you have your devices named in SkyView. But regardless, your HSI course needle and the info widget will be GREEN when it's set to a NAV radio source. Next, it's simply a matter of tuning the frequency on the GTN and then using SkyView's CRS joystick knob selection to choose your course/radial. Since SkyView provides an HSI, you'll notice that the course and CDI turn to help you orient yourself.
Beyond that, there are some things specific to the GTN that you'll want to make sure you fully understand, particularly when transitioning from GPS en-route navigation to an ILS or other radio-based navigation. For example, depending on how you have SkyView set up, you can have SkyView automatically transition its HSI from the GPS "side" of the GTN to the radio side automatically as the GTN sequences. Alternatively, SkyView can be configured so that you can manually toggle SkyView's HSI between the GPS and Nav radio via SkyView, but then you give up the auto-switching capability that the GTN is capable of. Now the nice thing here is you' don't need the rating at all to practice this on your own while VFR, or even on the ground if you can receive a VOR at your airport.
