Waypoint fly by

Having just started using my SV I set a round robin course and using the AP. All was good, I could see the course on the Map screen with the turns very well. After having turned past my first waypoint ok toward the another, I saw the screen indication of FPL turn in 30 seconds, as the seconds counted down to zero, the aircraft did not turn, it kept on flying straight, ok turned off AP and adjusted course toward the third waypoint, reset the AP the watched again the seconds count down with the AP, this time the plane turned. Ok that was good, on to the next waypoint and final destination.
So after reaching my destination, decided to fly on.
Set up a new FPL 3 waypoints. The first went well turned ok, but the waypoint of the second was not where it was supposed to be it was a different airport, I checked my FPL and saw I had correctly entered the waypoint, but my screen showed somewhere different.
Has anyone else encountered this situation? All seems to be working ok, but it is not doing as planned each time. I am not sure I can trust the GPS or AP?
Thanks
Dave

I think what you may have done is fly the auto pilot in course mode not in Nav. Ask me how I know! I had it set to a course and then I set the skyview to a certain airport or way point and wondered why it didn't go there. In the auto pilot screen set the roll servo to NAV. she'll follow the flight plan.

I will recheck and follow you suggestion and see if it happens again.
Thanks

Dave, when you say "reset the autopilot" how are you doing that? That will tell us what mode you are in.

Richard,
I believe i was in Nav mode. However, i have reviewed the instructions and the net time I fly I will load the FPL and make sure I am in Nav mode. I thought I did, but I am not sure now.
I was adding waypoints to the FPL by the insertion method. I did not see how to do it any other way. After reading, there is a button that says add to FPL. I did not see that button before.
I will try again.
Thanks
Dave

I found my AP in HDG mode more than a few times when all I normally use is NAV. Although I haven't confirmed it, I think that if the AP can't find your NAV source (eg: GPS not locked on to enough satellites at startup) it defaults to HDG mode. It's probably good practice to check the mode before you engage it. ;)

Couple of quick points:

When in NAV mode, the AP will fly whatever source is active in the HSI. So if the HSI isn't set to GPS0 (SkyView's map), then, it's not following the map's guidance.

Also yes, if the roll mode isn't set to NAV, then, you're in either HDG or TRK mode, which, will fly in a single direction continuously.

Yes I learned to engage the mode before I turned on the AP. It seems to have work fine since I began to do that. :)
