What is "Group Error"?

Not having any specific problem any more but something I was wondering when I was chasing my tail trying to debug RS-232 issues. There is an item called Group Error in the debug / setup screen where it a number counts up when something is wrong. It appears to count even when there is no data being received.

What does it indicate?

It increments if, over the last 3 seconds, there hasn't been any "good data" seen. That can happen if either a device isn't there at all, or if it's speaking something other than what that serial port is expecting to hear ( ie any of wrong baud rate, device selection, protocol selection on the 3rd party device, etc)
