What is the better IFR navigator to interface with Dynon HDX?

Dynon does indeed come up with surprises sometimes, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

This requires a pair of RS232 from the screen be connected to the Avidyne.
The connection and setup is discussed in the Third Party install manual.
I had wired mine to an extra serial when I did my panel specifically for this purpose but was under the impression it didn’t work.

Just tried it using one of the Garmin radio (a/b) serial devices and got it to work. Awesome.

Now I have a feature request.

I’d like to be able to assign the 440 as the main radio and have it show up in the top band while still being able to assign the airport to the secondary com (the Dynon one)

I have the Garmin 375 (GPS/TXPDR) interfaced with my two 11" screens and a mounted iPad mini. Can't imagine anything better after 3 years!

I'm just in the planning stages for an IFR Light type panel upgrade. In my 172B I currently have the full HDX suite, with two screens and both knob panels and also the Trio Pro Pilot.
Panel space, budget, and my flying style / IFR needs (not interested in flying down to minimums, I just want a little more freedom) are all parts of this decision process...
I'm also in Canada - so the regs may be slightly different than the U.S..
Budget immediately pushes the Avidyne boxes well out of my reach.

So I'm leaning toward a setup that includes a Trig TX56A Complete NAV/COM and a Garmin GPS 175. This should fulfill the CDN redundancy requirements, and provide capable package.
The Trig radio should integrate well with the HDX - right? Will I be able to control the radio frequencies through the HDX interface?

I have the same wish for Christmas as the last couple of years: that Dynon would just share if or if it has not anything going on with an IFR navigator. It makes it so much easier for all of us to plan - I am currently doing my IFR training (and loving every bit of it), so I am starting to plan about upgrading my (full Dynon HDX panel) to IFR standards.... and I am just not happy with the pricing of Garmin and Avidyne (including all the other stuff you need to make it work and, let's face it, sub-par integration with the HDX screens or am I wrong? I would be overly happy with just the message: "yes, we are working on it and you'll have to wait a year for it", or: "nope, get yourself the ARINC and a Garmin or Avidyne of your liking". The total silence on this topic is really frustrating (even for a big fan of all the other Dynon stuff that I am)! And by the way, I am flying an experimental (sorry for posting this in the certified section, but the topic stays the same doesn't it?)

I was in the same boat finishing out my panel in 2014 - and was badgering the Dynon guys about it just like you. One of them finally told me "We are not going to promise anything - it could be years or not at all - don't count on it until it hits the market." I bought a Garmin 430W, and then later replaced it with an Avidyne 440.

That was literally 10 years ago and it still hasn't hit the market. It's the only mission-critical avionics component in the panel that Dynon doesn't have their name on. I would love to help test one and run it, but...

Let's keep bugging them now and then...
I've also been looking at Avidyne (440 or 540) - what is your current setup of your panel? With or w/o audio panel?

I've finalised my choices for the IFR upgrade:
Avidyne IFD 410 + Trig TX-56a + PS PMA 450C = IFR capable.

Hoping to get the gear delivered in January 2025, and then installed right away. I'm thinking to streamline the installation of these components I'm going to look at the Faststack wiring harness.

See below for my current panel. I'm running the 440 dual 10" HDX. I see no value in the 540 since all it does is give you more glass - but realistically everything you need to SEE is already on the large Dynon screens. The only time I look at the Avidyne is initially entering a flight plan, or making a change to it - the rest of the time everything is displayed on the larger Dynon screens anyway, and I just can't see paying the additional money for the larger screen on the 540 when I'm not going to use it for looking at a map or weather or traffic anyway.

I have the PMA 5000EX audio panel. It's a 4-place audio panel in my 2-plane plane, it was purchased used at about half price when I was gathering components for my panel.
