Why are profile posts public?

Sometimes we need to share contact information with fellow members, particularly for things being bought or sold. But there's no way to privately share that information since profile posts are publicly viewable, just like the forums. Why is there no way to share such things privately with this software?

Okay, I get it now. The Start Conversation button does something entirely different from the profile post window on a user's profile page. Wish that was more obvious, but nice to know now. Thanks, Marc!
