In the manual it says :"The display of winds aloft requires an active GPS connection and an OAT probe."
My OAT probe is located inside the cockpit on the floor under the seat as we fitted it outside and the exhaust severely affected the readings.
Does the OAT have to be mounted outside of the aeroplane for this to work correctly and why do you need the OAT?

if the OAT is mounted inside the aircraft it isn't OAT it is IAT (Inside Air Temperature) and will not provide accurate atmospheric state infomation for calculation necessary for accurate winds.  OAT is needed in conjunction with pressure altitude to determine True Airspeed which in conjuction with GPS derived Ground Speed, Track and Heading provide the needed values for wind speed and direction.

For accurate OAT I'd suggest mounting under a wing or outboard of prop wash a couple of feet.

Another good location is under the horizontal stabilizer. That works well with SkyView installations where the ADHARS unit is mounted in the tailcone.

I would mount in the wing but it is full of foam!
The temp in the cabin at the base of the fus is pretty close to the OAT as the fus is made of glass fibre so the insulation not that good.
When I mounted it outside it got hot exhaust prop wash which was even worse.
Just gonna have to live with it I spose
