The Searey I recently purchased had a D700 with ADAHRS-200 and EMS-220. The com stack was a Garmin SL40 com, Garmin GTX 330 Trans and PM 3000 intercom. In addition there was a Garmin 696.
I have replaced the D700 with a D1000T, added the SV-470 ADSB, GPS 2020 and replaced the com stack with the SV-com-C25 with the 2S intercom and 261 XPNDER.
While the plane came with an excellent and complete wiring diagram I'm making enough changes that I need a little help.
The old set up had the 200 and the 220 using the two network ports on the D700. I purchased a custom harness from Dynon that connects the com panel, intercom and remote com unit (the actual com 425). That included all the headset wiring, etc. My first question is from some confusion when reading the installation manual. **Do I still need to connect one of the (9 pin) network ports on the com panel to the D1000T?** The manual seems to imply I do.

IF the answer to that is "YES", then it is probably a good thing I also purchased a hub.

At a very basic level it might help if someone could answer this: Is the way this system works a mater of what I would call from my programming days: "formatted messages?". In other words, it matters not where anything is plugged in because each device that is communicating with the "brain" (D1000) is sending formatted messages that tell the brain where it came from and what it contains. If this is the case then moving the two plugs that were originally plugged into the brain over to the hub and then connecting the hub to the brain will let me plug in the com panel.
I hope this is how it works as I just ordered two network cables.
Thanks for any help

Bob:

Its unlikely that you bought the custom harness from Dynon Avionics as we don't make custom harnesses. Specifically, we don't currently make harnesses for the SV-INTERCOM-2S or the SV-COM-C25.

Yes, the SV-COM-PANEL does need to be connected to SkyView Network. How that's done, physically, doesn't much matter, only that it DOES get connected, somehow, likely with a SkyView Network cable plugged into the SV-COM-PANEL to the SV-NET-HUB.

I had not previously heard the term "formatted messages", but yes, you have the idea. SkyView Network is a "serial, multi-drop network" - most easily understood as a "party line". All of the lines/pins are common amongst the various modules - all the Pin 1s are electrically common, all the Pin 2s are electrically common, etc. Each of the units on the SkyView Network have a unique name/address, and each unit listen for its name/address, and responds only it is individually queried.

Indeed - the custom harness came from Aircraft Spruce.

Thanks very much. I think I may get it all working again.

Formatted Messages merely means both sides of the conversation (pinger vs pingee) have the same understanding of where in the message stream each piece of data is expected to be (i.e. "the format")
