question for Dynon about autopilots moving forward

Anybody considered doing a field approval, using the dynon products? We know they work in our planes now don't we?

I believe a field approval is only theoretically possible. I don't believe it is actually possible to get a field approval for an autopilot

I spoke with Scott Fohrman. ACO in Chicago who stated that only single axis autopilot can get a field approval at this time. I tried going that route.

I think there’s a misconception….Trio are the ones that certified their equipment…I don’t think Dyson has anything to do with the certification of Trio’s autopilots.

Not sure what you mean. The only mention of a Trio was where someone apparently got it to work with a Dynon, and supposedly got 337 approval (post #51). Dynon hasn't attempted any approval with Trio that I've ever heard of. Perhaps you are confusing this with mentions of Trig, which Dynon owns?

Good luck. The most luck I've got with the FAA lately, and it's for a simple pitot tube swap, is a first phone call, and then after that just crickets and no reply to emails, texts, nothing.

Well one month later, I found another office and at least I'm communicating with the FAA and we might see a path forward. It's still hit and miss with communication but of course mine is a small project and these guys are dealing with big name companies, so I seem to be on the back burner or second shelf.

No misconception, Trio did certify their own autopilots, however if you look on approved autopilots on the Dynon webpage the Trio is listed as "Additional Autopilot Compatibility" with a number of plane models listed, hence my original question "With the add on of the Trio autopilots, has Dynon suspended or quit trying to certify your own autopilots?" To clarify, is Dynon no longer going to pursue auto pilot approvals for the models listed under the Additional Autopilot Compatibility. This was directed to Dynon

You should probably pose that question to them directly. While they do pop in here occasionally, they don't actively monitor this forum to any great extent.

Our own autopilot approvals and certifications are still very much alive. There are multiple active projects ongoing for new approvals that we aren't able to share publicly at this time for various reasons.

As many know, in the past we've shared information about a model family that we've been working on without knowing how much of the overall subset we will ultimately get approved in the end. This has caused pain and frustration when we haven't received approval for as many models as we had originally hoped for. That's why we're holding off on announcing specific projects moving forward until they are completed, but know that positive progress is happening on those as they're moving through the regular certification and approval phases.
