Flying an IAP with SkyView as a last resort if certified navigator fails?

Yes, of course if you can safely and legally fly an alternate approach, or can get to VMC, that is preferable. But this is dodging the constraints and spirit of the scenario. My question is if you had equipment failure in IMC and had to somehow get down through it with just SkyView and whatever...

Flying an IAP with SkyView as a last resort if certified navigator fails?

How would you handle this situation? Imagine you're on an instrument flight plan, in IMC, and your navigator fails. You are fine, the plane is fine, but now all you have for navigation is SkyView and your phone. And you are stuck in IMC all the way into the IAP. What do you do? The best I can...

    HDX hold entry

I believe the reason is that the IFD isn't actually sending any waypoints the HDX can use to navigate. If you go to the FPL menu and select the Avidyne source, you'll just see a bunch of entries with blanks and dashes until you get back to the hold fix. It would be great if this worked, and if...

Unofficial Dynon Skyview Update Script for MacOS

I never got around to it, sorry. Any chance one of you would submit a pull request back to the original project? I'd love to incorporate your improvements.

    CO2 detectors

Hi David, Are you saying you can install the 2.0 integrated unit in an STC installation even though the 2.0 is experimental only? Or do you mean you can connect the certified 5.0 to an HDX?

    Skyview, IFD and Foreflight integration

It doesn't really work like that though -- when Foreflight talks to the IFD, that's a direct communication (it doesn't get interpreted or modified by SkyView en route, even when SkyView is the WAP/DHCP server). I'm betting this is just a really naive implementation in Foreflight, e.g. it sends...

Unofficial Dynon Skyview Update Script for MacOS

I don't have plans to build a GUI but I'm happy to answer questions for anybody who'd like to. I think the ideal situation would be to skip a GUI entirely and just have SA host a pre-built image (with nationwide data) each month. I would happily automate this for them -- I've basically already...

An update on Dynon Certified projects

Appreciate the clarity here. I'll echo what others have said -- visibility into your roadmap and future intentions is valuable, even if it's too far out to make specific promises.

Unofficial Dynon Skyview Update Script for MacOS

Yeah, I have it configured to copy all charts. This is cool! I am new to Dynon/SA and did not realize the dates don't always line up (when I built the script, everything expired on the same day). I am considering just prompting for SA user/password, and doing all the auth and session passing...

Unofficial Dynon Skyview Update Script for MacOS

I have three displays/drives, so I create a disk image and then write them all at once with Etcher. You're in luck though. My script puts everything in a directory before it writes the disk image, so you can just change OUTPUT_DIR to your USB drive. Be sure to remove this line.

Unofficial Dynon Skyview Update Script for MacOS

After posting this yesterday, I added support to also pull in the latest Skyview software and aviation/obstacles database. It currently pulls Certified versions but it'd be easy to add Experimental if there's any interest.

Unofficial Dynon Skyview Update Script for MacOS

If any of you are Mac users and comfortable running commands at a terminal, I built a small script to make it easier to update Skyview with the latest Seattle Avionics chart data. The way it works is: you log into SA to get the latest password and filename prefix, and then the updater downloads...

    C172N Skyview HDX Install

I should have proactively clarified this. It took a while partly due to COVID, but also because I asked them to do a ton of other stuff while they were in there. The guy who did it was homeschooling his kid during the day and working nights to get it done, and there was a delay getting the...
