Technically all three do get used for phones but a non-stereo headset only needs two. You should wire all three to the jack though. The manual does not mention colors; instead they seem to expect people to test each wire to identify it instead of relying on color. It's kind of annoying.

The helmet is by Flycom using Peltor speakers but I do not know who makes the mike. The website only says it is a 150 ohm electret mike. Today I did borrow another headset and my voice was loud and clear with it so I have no idea what is wrong with the mike. Both helmets have the same issue.

You're right, I tested it today and the HDX is correctly linearly interpolating the brightness values; it was just the once-per-second refresh that threw me off.

But if you use the radio without SkyView then the buttons for tower, ground, etc. don't do anything, right? Those buttons are what make it so easy to use.

Well mine doesn't. My potentiometer is about 12V at the 'full' setting, smoothly varying to 0V at minimum, but the HDX display only has 5 possible brightness settings when using it. It does not interpolate. I don't really care because I always have it either at full brightness or minimum...

I think this is how it's meant to work...? At least that's how it works for me. You define the volts for 25%, 50%, and 75% brightness, so you just get those exact brightness amounts and not a smooth interpolation.
