    Fuel tank calibration

Some thoughts: - Fuel flow senders are very accurate using the SkyView EMS - until they are not. The senders assume the tanks start off with a know amount of fuel (typically you reset after fill up) and they assume all the fuel coming out of the tank goes to the engine. If you have a leaking...

    ADAHRS Installation - Compass Calibration

I just put my trusty Boy Scout compass out on a wing. I buddy pushes the tail around to the four cardinal headings. Then do the air calibration. This process locks in the calibration promptly each time. Carl

    Dynon SV-Comm - Same radio?

Via Dynon or a Dynon dealer (ACS, Stein, etc.). The software to integrate the radio and XPDR is SkyView. Carl

    Dynon SV-Comm - Same radio?

Dynon shifted to the very nice Trig radio a few years ago. I’m running it now, and will put it in the new build as well. I have flown with the Garmin GTR 200 and found it to be a distant second to the Dynon radio. Side note - the Dynon SkyView XPDR is also made by Trig. Carl

Localizer is way off on the Dynon HDX HSI from SL30 Signal

It would help if you provided information on how you wired both the GPS-175 and SL-30 to the ARINC. Does the SL-30 nav drive the CDI when just tracking a VOR? Look starting at page 12-6 of the install manual. Are you wired and configured as it discusses? Carl

    XM Weather on SkyView

I offer a data point on XM weather. I was an early adopter (2012 timeframe) of the SkyView ADS-b receiver. On the first long crosscounty I retained my XM weather (a 396) display to verify the SkyView ADS-b information adequate. Flying down to Key West we got into the typical summer...

Dynon Skyview HDX GPS Accuracy vs TSO GPS Navigator

The short answer is no, the SkyView database does not have any approaches so there are none to load. Two options if the TSO GPS and the VOR/LOC/GS receiver (if one is installed) fail and you cannot fly to an airport with VFR landing conditions: - Use a paper approach chart, or Foreflight to...

    Updated D10A in the pipeline??

My objection to the D30 is that for the little it does it is overpriced (I assume the price reflects the “certified” aspect). An updated D10A is a far superior solution. I flew the D10A for many years and it did everything I need. I can’t believe Dynon does not have an experimental market to...

    Updated D10A in the pipeline??

Nope - the D30 no way has the capabilities of the D10A. I ruled it out as soon as it came out. Carl

    Updated D10A in the pipeline??

One last panel to do. It will be dual SkyView HDX but I would like to add a stand alone 3 1/4” EFIS as a backup. I can’t bring myself to install a G5, and the AV-30 has its own issues. I know Dynon does not discuss possible new releases, but if anyone got a “wink and a nod” alone the lines of...

RV-8 SV-EMS-220 install location and Firewall Penetration

Firewall penetration is best done using the stock RV-14 SS firewall penetrator parts: https://store.vansaircraft.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=FF-00001&product_list_mode=grid Put a piece of firesleeve on the inside to pass the wires through. Put a piece of larger firesleeve over that, and...

Dynon SV-Comm Radio Strobe Noise vs. Squelch

If you have on older vintage, Areo LED Nav/strobes can put out a boatload of RFI, more on the Nav side then strobe. I fixed this problem by adding a small backing plate on the fiberglass side of the wingtip mount. The Nav/Strobe ground wire is cut short, then connects to a Nav/strobe mounting...

What strobes and landing lights are you using? Carl

Dynon SV-Comm Radio Strobe Noise vs. Squelch

I suggest working the root problem - the LED strobes and Landing Lights. There are some ways to mitigate the noise. Carl

    Is AOA Real?

To the first question - yes. AOA is a function of pitot and AOA port pressure difference (not static). The Dynon pitot has both a pitot and AOA port. To the second question - perhaps yes. Assuming you calibrated the AOA for the same plane configuration (e.g. flaps and such) you can ride the...

    HDX 7' screen size.

I fly with a 10” and a 7” - good fit for the RV-8 panel. The 7” is used for EMS and long range map (keep an eye on weather, TFRs and such). The 10” is moving map and PFD. I have done test using only the 7” for an IFR approach (simulates the 10” failed). Not as nice as the 10” but perfectly...

    Pitch Bucking during VNAV Approach

By chance did you get the “Air Speed Low” alert during the approach? This will case the autopilot to pitch the nose down to gain airspeed. The lowest you can set this is 1.3 times VSo1. So first make sure you have VSo1 set at something like 60 knots for the RV-10. This then lets you set the...
