    Adding D1000

Bob, I also really like my Touch SV. Not to get off subject, but go with a Mac (I use a Mac Pro). Free OS upgrades, no malware to speak of. I run XP using Parallels to run my Windows apps like AutoCad and Visio. My Mac is now 8 years old and still running strong. Only thing I have done to...

    ADSB 472

George, here is a simple solution: Don't use Dynon ADS-B at all. Go spend $3500 on a standalone system. There are a number of them out there now. Better yet, as I mentioned before, just sell your entire Dynon system on eBay and go buy a $40K Garmin system.

    ADSB 472

OK George, let me get this straight. You continuously demonize and badmouth Dynon throughout this thread, but now you want them to use you as a beta-tester? Really!!!!! I have a few other choice comments for you, but at Dynon's request, I'm toning it down a bit!

    ADSB 472

OK, I held my tongue yesterday, but enough is enough. Obviously, the individuals that are complaining have absolutely no clue what they are talking about when it comes to electronics and troubleshooting. Especially, when it involves antennae and wave propagation/transmission theory. It can be...

    SV-425 Com Mod level

I purchased one of the first Comms, and returned it last June for an upgrade.  Dynon told me the ID tag should have a "Mod AB"on it (as of last June), so I think you are OK.  I would check with Dynon Customer Support just to be sure there are no new mods. They told me the mods were due to...

    CO Guardian

I'm sooooo confused! :-/ COG states their data output is twisted-pair RS232 to a MFD, and the wiring diagram shows pins 7 & 8 being TX/RX serial. I'm glad we finally got this cleared up! :P

    CO Guardian

Steve - not trying to be disagreeable, but my take is that it is unclear from any CO Guardian information that you can reset from the EFIS. I can interpret it to read that the the EFIS data can be reset through the RS232, but it is not clear that the reset is on the EFIS. The example Dynon...

    CO Guardian

No, per the install manual you still have to install an annunciator light and test button on the panel even if using the remote mount, so there is no assumption, base on available information, a test button and annunciator light would be assignable through the RS-232.  The audible alarm remains...

    CO Guardian

I have had the CO Guardian installed in my plane for several years (original panel build), but really didn't see a need to interface with my Dynon.  I just use it as a normally passive panel mount warning device.  My feeling is you are just cluttering up your screen with duplicate data (alert...

Heated Pitot In Carbon Fiber Wing

What Ray said. If you look at my first photo, the mount for the PT controller is done just that way, except I used fiberglass flat stock instead of aluminum. However, I have aluminum plates with nut plates imbedded all over my plane.

Heated Pitot In Carbon Fiber Wing

There are a number of ways to to do it, but it would be the same as any fiberglass composite wing.  I placed my PT at the wing tip as far out as possible.  As the wing structure is not flat in the forward position of the wing, I built up a pad of structural aerosil (resin and fused silica) so it...

Routing Coax For Sv83 and Transponder.

Ray, the RG142a has a wrapped teflon core (like teflon tape), so it is really difficult to cut clean, and you have a greater chance of nicking the core wire. I had to buy a $100 coax trimmer to make it work so I didn't have to make every cut by hand. It supposedly has better transmission...

Routing Coax For Sv83 and Transponder.

I agree with Jake. All my Dynon black boxes are behind my panel and are fed by bundled wires. I used RG142a for most of my antenna requirements, but found the "a" format is very difficult to prep for connectors because it does not have a solid insulation core. RG400 is the way to go. I...

    ADSB 472

Guys, getting this fixed can be very difficult.  It has only been a few months.  Some of you who work with electronics such as Jake, I think Steve, and a few others know that radiation transmission and reception can be very complicated.  Take a course in antenna theory and you will see my...

    ADS-B IN traffic

It wasn't that I wasn't seeing traffic at all, it was just intermittent. The Cirrus was full out/in and was seeing all the traffic all the time. I know this because I was talking to the Cirrus and ATC. The other intermittent traffic was commercial traffic from Greensboro and Raleigh which was...

    ADS-B IN traffic

Another data point. Flew from eastern NC to eastern TN last Sunday at 8,500'. Was in a 2 plane flight flying about a mile apart, with the other plane a Cirrus. Saw the Cirrus as traffic, but 3 or 4 times he just disappeared off the screen for several minutes, then showed up again. Flight...

    Compass Calibration

I would point out, a lot of small GA airports do not have a compass rose.   The magnetic values change over time and I've been told by several FBO's it is not economical for them to maintain a CR.  What I have done, as well as many others, is to use a good quality hand-held compass and...

Rice Crispies sound coming from Skyview screens

Jared, not commenting on if your connectors are the problem or to get off subject, but being old school and military trained in avionics, the use of butt connectors, in general, should be avoided when possible. We were not allowed to use them in our military avionics applications. I personally...

    removing pins from D Sub?

Hiroo, not sure where I first associated red or green tools with pin size (long time ago), but did a little more research and came across a Vertical Power manual that lists red as standard pins and green as high density. I have also seen references that suggest the red can also be used for high...

    Dynon Comm Push-to-Talk?

BAC - Dynon suggests no audio related grounds be connected to AC ground buss. All the Comm ground wires should be interconnected in parallel (including Comm pin 2) to the Audio/Power ground pin 1 on the Intercom. You can see this clearly in the Dynon install manual on page 16-11.
