    v14 "Caution" audio alerts

Ok - exported the User Data Log and found the alerts. They say: Alert type: Audio Action: Play Description: Sys Caution Just before these and at the about the same log time I also have these alerts: Alert type: Text Action: Hide Description: Com Radio Panl Offline Then, Alert type: Text...

    v14 "Caution" audio alerts

Just did a 2 hour hop with v14 (dual 10" install). Everything worked fine except a got ~20 audio "Caution" alerts that were so short that I did not get a message as to what the alert was for. This is a new twist compared to v13. The transponder was also updated per the v14 instructions. Is...

    XPDR Caution

I'll double-check those, too...they're Fast-Ons into a fuse block with ATC fuse blades, so unlikely to be lose, but might have acquired some oxidation and need cleaning.  Thanks for the tip!  (Good preventive maintenance to check all of them every so often, anyway...) Don't assume a fuse is...

    XPDR Caution

Assuming your battery is not flat, make sure your power lead breaker terminal connections are tight. I tracked down a similar COMM/NAV problem to a loose breaker connection. Carl

    Highway In The Sky (HITS)

Interesting discussion. To the one Dynon response, feeding a IFR navigator like the GTN-650 into the SkyView provides the full approach, arrival and departure proceedures and flight plan on your display. I guess Dynon could put a box on the display that follows the approach Glide Slope, but...

    Red Background on Map

Read the thread on "DC SFRA" then download and install the " TFR_ACTIVE_LIGHT.dfg" file. This fixes the problem for us that have to fly near such nonsense. Carl

    Engine parameters Lean-of-Peak

Thanks for the feed. I note however that operating experience consistently has the EMS showing LOP before the engine reaches LOP. Not by much, but still off. Carl

    Engine parameters Lean-of-Peak

Don't worry about % Power indication at it is only that, an indication. This is not what you use to operate LOP. The EMS has an exceptionally accurate "Lean" function for you to use. Do a few runs at different power settings and altitudes with the EGTs all -10 degrees or more LOP. Download...

    External Annunciator Lights

Page 7-61 of the SkyView install manual (V-13.0) tells you how to install an external light for an EMS alarm condition. For information, I find the SkyView audio warning for EMS alarm conditions better than any indicator light. Carl

Same problem yesterday on two different planes flying south of the Washington DC ADIZ. Screen shot attached.

    AOA indicator

On the other hand, I'd rather have Dynon work features not yet offered. I find AOA visual indication less than useful (no matter where it is) as compared to the audio tone. I'm too busy looking out the window. Carl

    Fuel Level Sensors

Tim, A couple of additional thoughts: - Level the plane. Most require a jack under each wing to get to level flight attitude. - Use the fuel tank calibration as a way to flush your fuel system. Do the tank calibration and fill up the tank all the way (at some point the fuel probe will top out...

    WAAS GPS integration

Tom, I use the GTN-650 serial #1 output for the ARINC. Page 12-8 tells you to set the GTN-650 serial output to "HIGH-GAMA Format 2". I use the GTN-650 serial #2 output for the ADS-B output to the transponder. Look at page 11-18 for where it tells you to use ADS-B+ output for the GTN serial...

    WAAS GPS integration

Look at the SkyView install manual section 12. It shows what connections to make. The GTN settings and ARINC settings are all listed (page 12-8 and 12-9). The ARINC eliminates the vast majority of legacy hardwired connections to analog HSI/CDI heads and such. For my GTN-650 I use serial #1...

I looked at the AFS website and failed to find the price on this box.

How much time to wire Skyview

Ok - I'll take a stab at a man-hours estimate. I did all the wiring including the GTN-650 harness and audio panel. 20 hours doing the panel itself (I added connectors for everything going away from the panel, including power). 10 hours getting the ADHARS, ADS-B receiver, roll and pitch servos...

How much time to wire Skyview

There is no time savings by wiring for just VFR capability compared to IFR. Just the process of figuring out what you would leave out for IFR will take longer than saved. Add to that the "damn - forgot to put that wire in the conduit" risk and you have your answer. Carl

    ADSB OUT with GPS-250

Your mode S transponder is the ADS-B out source. The ADS-B in antenna is receive only. Assuming you are using the existing Dynon GPS receiver and have it selected as your ADS-B GPS position out source, it will do exactly that. The fact that it lacks a couple of the specific data fields to be...
