warning voice I can't figure out!

She's telling you: GEEEZ! (You know high-speed taxiing is one of the most dangerous things to do in an airplane!)

    what's next

One of the features I really like in the Garmin handheld GPS units is the descent planning... VERTICAL SPEED TO DESTINATION assuming TPA for airports.    (current alt - wpt.TPA)/minutes-to-wpt When I see that get to 500 (or as the GPS alerts me) the descent timing is perfect.  I just leave the...

    Calibrated airspeed

Unless your pitot tube is behind the prop or too close to a compressing surface, it's likely static error. Try putting a 4x thick piece of masking tape in front of your static port. Better to fix your static port than try to deal with it in software.

    RPM

That's what I have.. both tach inputs, resistor from mag(1/rev) + LSE output (2/rev). No additional tach sensor needed. Skyview doesn't blink when I shut off either on the runup. Nice job, guys.

    Data logging in Skyview

combine this handy serial logger: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9530 with the new serial data output. It can be even more automatic than a data dump function. I'd have to look into the voltage level of the serial output. The logger is meant for 5v serial in. Don't hook it directly to the...

SL30 COM setting from airport data in 3.1?

Does the new software set frequencies onto an SL30/SL40/A210 yet?

    Changing Altimeter setting on Skyview

To help stabilize my hand in turbulence, I may use some slightly different hardware.  Nicely, the mounting holes for the 10" display are 3" ctr-ctr, so use the screws from the back and into a 3" cabinet pull like this:

    MAP software

One reason I went with the 10" screen was it was clear that the focus of development was on that, as far as fonts, etc. The 7" could just as well be limited to basic functions not requiring detailed text. I don't want my 10" screen turned into a Disney cartoon with giant text. Bob

    RPM RPM

OK. I might dig into the sensors file to make a new sensor def for a custom ammeter shunt and change RPM display to TACH at the same time. But, yea, that's probably something else to tweak at your end. Thanks. Bob

    RPM RPM

I first fired up my SkyView system yesterday with 2.5, then updated to 2.6. So far, so good. The Engine page shows MAP(what) and INGH(units). OIL(what) and PSI(units). That all makes sense. It also shows RPM(what) and RPM(units), which doesn't make sense. How do I change the top RPM to TACH...

    Flap position sensor wiring

Yes, in fact the installation manual has a good caution to say something like "you might want to provide for the 5v out to go to multiple senders." The position sender is just a potentiometer. Thus, OUTranges from 5v to GND. A tiny amount of current flows through the sensor. 5v --\/\/\/\/\--...

    Dynon Transponder

OK, I'll ask.... What happens when the 262 goes faster than 175 kt or over 15k ft? Bob

    Data logging in Skyview

Just another voice really wanting that feature. It's almost in the category of assumed capability, since every other EFIS and all of the newest engine monitors do it. Sure, test flights can be done with a pencil and paper. Bring some crayons, too, and draw the mountains instead of using the...

    No-AOA installation SV pitot/static

so the sensor can't be damaged by the notable pressure difference between 200 IAS down low and static up high?

    No-AOA installation SV pitot/static

Since I'm flying a canard design that doesn't require the pilot to fly by AOA, I have only a simple pitot tube and static port. How should the AOA port be connected to prevent both damage to the AOA sensor and false AOA warnings? (SkyView AHRS) Thanks Bob

Should Power pins have circuit protection?

It would just simplify wiring and reduce ground loop potential. There's only one pin for signal and power ground. I have a 4-pin tx/rx/gnd/pwr cable and it would just be simpler to run that one cable into the DB37 connector. According to Garmin, it takes in 10-32v and 0.75W, but runs on 6v...

Should Power pins have circuit protection?

So, then it's pretty safe to use the GPS power output to run a handheld GPS (GPSIII Pilot). Yea, I should measure its current requirement for you to provide an answer. Say it's 500mA. Would that be OK?

Does your oil temp sensor leak?

The oil temp port for Lycoming is not a pipe thread. It is as Dynon describes. There's a VERY important note in the installation manual to add the copper crush washer. Frankly, it should be included with the sender. Bob

    Oil Temp Fluctuation

Hi. I got the GRT Lycoming oil temp sensor before Dynon came to Oshkosh. It is a two wire sender. I'll check that it has the above part number. But, if it does, is it ok to use as described here with SkyView EMS? Thanks

    Interface to Vertical Power

Great to hear that you're allocating development resource to more useful features than supporting an overcomplicated set of switches and fuses/breakers. VP seems to be for people who don't otherwise spend enough time or money on their airplanes. :)
