    Skyview HDX Firmware v 16.0.2

What say you Dynon, is ADS-B Winds Aloft fixed or not? I very much miss this information during cross country. Carl

    calibrating IAS

Assume the analog is wrong until proven otherwise. Most are off, brand new out of the box. Make a simple manometer using the attached template to convert inches of water to knots (make sure you print it out at 100% scale). Connect to your pitot and see which is reading correctly. Analog...

GTN-650 flight plan input to HDX lost

Doing a practice RNAV approach with the GTN-650 providing approach navigation, the flight plan from the GTN-650 suddenly disappeared from the HDX moving map (as in the nice magenta line went away). The GTN-650 input to the PDF display was not affected. Going into the menu on the HDX, the flight...

First Flight with the Skyview HDX

Recommend doing a least a couple of landing configuration stalls on the first flight so you can verify your “over the fence” IAS (as in something above your now observed stall speed). Do this at ~4000’AGL. As you are doing these stalls anyway, do your initial calibration for the AOA. It is...

Backup Battery, not for Skyview, for EMS, Transponder, IFR, etc...

Fully agree - jump starting is forbidden in my POH. A jumped battery has been abused and you can no longer rely on whatever reserve capacity you designed for. But - you picked the one example of pilot error. Look at the others where a high resitance contact got hot during flight and failed...

Backup Battery, not for Skyview, for EMS, Transponder, IFR, etc...

“One or two batteries as your heart desires simply defines your ability to continue flight without an alternator - but a backup alternator allows you to continue flight to the destination rather than an immediate divert.” Not at all correct. Simple fixation on the alternator as the only point...

Backup Battery, not for Skyview, for EMS, Transponder, IFR, etc...

For IFR, consider a full system design for power reduancy, not just cobbling together multiple backup batteries. Here a thoughtful dual battery, single alternator design with no backup batteries offers significant advantage.

    V16 Update

I never realized how much I depended on the ADS-B winds aloft data on long cross country trips - until the V16.0.1 update eliminated it. Any estimate on when the software fix will be out and we get it back? Carl

    Dynon NAV/COMM???

Yep - my exact thought. Rebrand the Trig NAV/Comm as is (with software update to be compatible with the SkyView). Or to be more eloquent repackage the Trig NAV/COMM for remote mount, modifiy the existing Dynon Comm module to do dual COMM/NAV frequency selections, and do the needed software...

    Dynon NAV/COMM???

Still looking for a comment from Dynon. Carl

    Dynon NAV/COMM???

The SL-30 was, in my opinion, the best value in a NAV/Comm - too bad Garmin killed it to replace with their inferior NAV/Comm. So the SL-30 is great - until it needs repair. Then it is only good for parts. An integrated Dynon NAV/Comm playing with the SkyView is a perfect way for Dynon to...

    Dynon NAV/COMM???

I’ve poked the good folks at Dynon about offering a TSO GPS navigator for years - and have got a consistent “we are not working on this” (but I still have hope). But shoot fire - how about a Dynon NAV/COMM? Think about taking the current Dynon radio and adding nav capability. The immediate...

Grand Rapids releasing GPS LPV approach capability

My points on this: - Dynon’s recent success on moving the EIFS products into the spam can TSO world tells me the FAA has finally opened their eyes to new capabilities that where held back by unnecessary oversight burden. With luck the FAA will adopt more streamline approaches to meet their...

Grand Rapids releasing GPS LPV approach capability

Is this the crack in the IFR GPS TSO armor? We all know the Dynon 2020 GPS receiver meets the specs, and now Dynon is marketing to the spam can crowd. Is a SkyView IFR solution cooking in the back room? I’m about four months out on pulling the trigger on an Avidyne IFD440 to go with the new...

    Auto trim in simplified mode

No. The AP panel has no function other than being a trim servo relay is you are in the simplified mode. I sent a note in to Dynon on this that while the installation manual clearly states you must be in the expert mode for any of the AP panel function to work, this point was missing from...

    GTN-650 or IDF540?

Thanks for the feed. I share your conclusions. If you flown with it, how does it play? Carl

    GTN-650 or IDF540?

I looked. The IDF540 nav only database is the same $480 (all US) as the GTN-650 on Jepp. I agree - overpriced. I don't get the terrain or obstacle as the SkyView does a much better job at this than the GTN-650 anyway. I am a Garmin user only because there was no other reasonably priced...

    GTN-650 or IDF540?

I've been flying a dual 10" SkyView and GTN-650 set up in the RV-10 for over four years. The RV-10 is sold - now working on an RV-8. For this project I plan on one 10" and one 7" SkyView display. Recently I engaged in a discussion on using the IDF540 instead of the GTN-650 in the RV-8. Price...

skyview, waas gps, ifr charts, canada

I have been flying the SkyView fed from a GTN-650 (via the SkyView ARINC module) for over four years. Here are your answers: 1) Yes - the GTN-650 feeds the SkyView for flight planes, approaches and such. The SkyView is a far superior display of the GTN-650 information than the GTN-650...

    AP Panel suggestions

Thanks. I like the design objectives of the panel. I'm hopeful you all will figure out a way to make it more functional when in the Simpified mode. Carl
