remote NAV radio for SkyView HDX

Or - Dynon produce their own NAV/COMM!! This would make a nice marraige for a TSO GPS/Comm like the Garmin GNC 355 to complete an IFR panel.

Fuel computer quantity adjustment doesn't save after shutdown of display

This is a known problem. If you fill up the tanks, hit reset to full, taxi to the hangar it may forget you did the reset. If you fill up and go fly it is not an issue. It is all about how long a time between reset and power off. Carl

    Calibrating the AoA System

Keep in mind many builders use the “look out the window” flap position indicator. I also suggest if you calibrate at full flaps you are covered for most applications. Carl

    Calibrating the AoA System

To answer the specific question, I calibrate the AOA with full flaps. If I land with something other than full flaps I find the AOA still works, but tends to not be as critical as no flap landings are done at increased airspeed. I also note AOA is much more informative with a nose gear plane...

    HDX Lean Assist Question

Look at my screen shot: - Cylinder #2 shows 1-33. This means it was the first cylinder to peak and is showing 33 degrees LOP. If would have the same indication if at it 33 degrees ROP. - Cylinder 4 shows 4-18. So it was the last to peak and is currently 18 degrees LOP. NOTE, once all...

    HDX Lean Assist Question

Keep in mind when your see ROP, PEAK or LOP on the EMS display, this is only a model of your engine. It may or may not accurately reflect what is going on. For example when I‘m just on the lean side of peak using the leaning tool, the EMS still says I’m ROP. So as I suggested, use the leaning...

    HDX Lean Assist Question

I assume are running a normally aspirated engine. The SkyView provides a nice tool to set EGTs where ever you want them. Lean Assist is a tool to find Peak EGT then add fuel back to go ROP, or continue leaning to operate at you desired LOP point. But, I assume your real question is “how do I...

Need advice about adding radios to HDX

I recommend the PS Engineering panel: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpages/pda360ex11-13798.php I’ve been flying this for a year in the new RV, and flew with an older version for several years in the RV-10. Love it. For IFR, the easiest approach is to have a TSO GPS Nav/Comm to...

    SV-25 Comm and transceiver?

The short answer, one head per radio. Typical IFR installations use a TSO GPS NAV/Comm as Comm #1, and the Dynon radio as Comm #2. Carl

    Choosing an IFR GPS navigator

I used the GTN-650 on the last two projects - only because it is the least bad of all the bad options. Compared to the intuitive nature of the SkyView, the GTN-650 is very clunky. For the new project I will probably go with the Garmin GNC-355 (same as the GTN-650 but no VOR/LOC/GS). I find I’m...

EMS- lost signal on #1 EGT

Replace the spade connectors. This is the problem more often than a probe going bad. You can get them at Aircraft Spruce or Stein: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/pidg.php https://www.steinair.com/product/18-22-ga-red-faston-14/ If memory serves, you want the 1/4” wide spade...

    Dynon Level Button vs Disconnect

Both. Autopilot disconnect on the stick. Level on the Autopilot module. Carl

    Winds Aloft fix???

Yep - you are looking at the wrong thing. When you go look up a METAR or TAF for an airport, winds aloft forecast is included. This provides (or at least use to provide) wind speed, direction and temperature for that area, in a table up to flight levels. Great for planning ahead on what...

    Winds Aloft fix???

Do the good folks at Dynon have an estimate on when a fix will be out? Carl

VPS and PPS in new RV-10 build

Assuming you are building an IFR bird, if you really must use a VPX then use two; one for each SkyView and comm. If you don’t use two VPX units, then follow the guidelines to have power route around them for at least one SkyView and comm so you don’t loose the world when the VPX fails. Point...

    ADS-B out

If you already have a WAAS GPS receiver (Garmin 430W, GTN-650, etc.) you can keep the 250 GPS receiver - use the WAAS GPS serial out to feed the transponder for ADS-B out. This is covered in the SkyView install manual. Carl

    Winds Aloft fix???

Software update 16.0.1 killed getting winds aloft data over ADS-B. When will Dynon put out a fix to get it back? It comes in right handy for cross county work. Carl

    Transponder Antenna Location Safety?

The short answer - yes. The longer answer is the antenna will be radiating in a plane around the antenna, and very little vertically through the aluminum skin (the antenna ground plane) back into the airplane. Carl
