The upcoming release will be for experimental aircraft. We're evaluating whether or not there will be a certified version.

What is involved in the evaluation? Performance or reliability of the screen? The certified market interest in a larger screen? FAA approval? How much time will the evaluation take? If a decision is made by Dynon to market the larger screen for certified aircraft are there delays expected, will the option become available with a predictable timeline? It seems a no-brainer that the certified market will want the option, especially in single display panels. Im ready to order mine!

One of the considerations may very well be making it fit, short of getting a second STC to modify the stationary panel in the Cessna's. It took considerable finesse to get the 1100 to fit in the C182 panel space efficiently. One company already has one to do that, but after looking at what they did and the amount of work to replace the factory's panel. The details are available, but quoting the company,

Due to the extensive nature of the Legacy XL Stationary Panel installation, there are many parts on your aircraft that must be removed to make installation possible. During reinstallation, we recommended the following be purchased new and installed, as there will never be a better time to replace some of your aging components!

I think based on what we found doing the HD1100 putting anything bigger in would involve doing alterations to the static panel or doing something like the Legacy product which for me would be a comprehensive show stopper and I'd still have vacuum pumps running the show. But for a clean sheet design, yeah, I'd love to have the extra screen real estate.

Every installation is different, even on the same model of aircraft.

Remember: these aren’t certified for a particular panel layout. I’d be happy to put the larger screen in my Baron, and it would fit. If I’m cutting a new panel I’ll lay it out so a 12” will fit, since the back is the same as the 10” and it would be an easy retrofit if it gets approved.

I assume you refer to the STC, and not FAR 25.1321, which still applies.
No, FAR part 25 applies to transport category aircraft. I don’t think the STC covers that…maybe you are trying to get a field approval in an L1011?

Part 23 applies to most GA aircraft (specifically 23.2600 in this case) and the guidance within AC 23.1311-1C defines the requirements.

Other than that, was that a serious question or just an obvious red-herring?

The STC doesn’t specify what size screen must be used (other than only the 7 and 10 inch screens may be used, in any combination). It directs you to the AC I mentioned for FOV considerations. It does not specify exact screen layout or panel design as long as the FOV requirements are met.

Sorry. Wrong part. But you kind of got what I was getting at with 23.2600. There's also AC 23-23, but I see now that isn't mandatory. So, just disregard. The certified world is obviously not my forte.
