We have a D100 that works well with my Garmin 296 and shows the course on the HSI but when we tried with a 495/6 the menu seems to be different and we could not get it to talk to the HSI it only seems to have 1 serial port where the 295 shows 2 of which we seem to be using port 2 How should we set the 495 menu to let it talk to the HSI

Thanks

I have a D10A. But when I changed from a 296 to a 495, I didn't change a thing and it works fine.

The 296 did have 2 serial ports, but the newer models do not (they use it internally for weather).

If your 296 was wired to use serial 2, you're going to need to re-wire it to use serial 1 on a newer unit. If you already used serial 1, it should be plug-and-play.

I presently have a GPS 296 output driving a NavAid A/P (roll only). I would like to use the second GPS 296 output to send GPS info direct to D10A. Would you anticipate any connectivity or other problem(s) with this approach? Thanks.

No problems at all - if you want redundancy use a DPDT switch to give gps input from either unit to the Dynon and A/P.

You can use the second output from the 296, or you can just spilt the cable going to the navaid. Either system should work fine.

Jake, there's only one GPS in the system. The 296 has two serial outs. No need or advantage in installing a switch.

Only 2 x GPS..........That is never enough!!

My SOPS require two in the panel, one in the nav bag, one in the EPIRB and if possible one in your PC ;D
