ACK ELT GPS data test

Hello all. I have the ACK ELT connected to my HDX running a GPS 2020. The tester described in the ACK handbook has it connected to the test lead on the ELT. I have read the DYNON instructions for the serial port setup, using 9600 buad with the default pin connections on the ELT (per the ACK book), but have no flashing led showing it is transferring data to the ELT. The test light is heavily shaded and I am looking for a dim/fast flash etc...

Does any one have any first hand advice on how to proceed or what I might be missing? Is there a way to KNOW for sure which serial port the ELT is connected to (via a confirmation test, wire check)?

Thanks for the help up front!

I did that on the advice of the ACK folks, they were right, backward. But still no joy.

One other bit of info: the test light will flash rapidly if connected directly to the TX lead from the HDX. So light and wires appear to work

So when I installed the ACK running off an IFD540. The led would flash but very dimly. If I remember right, the manual says the same thing. I had to put the LED in a dark area and look at it directly and not from the side and got the flash. Fast forward to the the transponder check, the tech had the tester to see the burst from the 406 and signed it off
