ADAHRS location

Thinking about where to position the ADAHRS box on an RV8 project I have just taken over. I see most people seem to build a shelf behind the rear baggage area but as the turtle deck is already fitted on my aircraft is the area beneath the empennage fairing a viable alternative location?

I’d go for the shelf idea - think future accessibility & also the longer wiring & tubing install.

Yep - shelf. This one is made from scrap 1/4” fiberglass board (fiber core) I got from a Lancair IV builder and some left over J channel from a previous build. Very light but strong.

I would not recommend putting the ADAHRS in the tail for reasons identified above and because that is quite a distance from the CG. I think the shelf that others have proposed would be my choice and recommendation.

That is the diagram I saw that prompted my original question. Just wondering if anyone has tried mounting the ADAHRS under the empennage fairing, it would certainly make installation easier and also ease future maintenance access.

I suspect the ADAHRS module would not play well after it got wet - and that area can get wet. It is easy to mount it as discussed and no less hassle for maintenance. Also keep in mind if you ever want to do IFR you really need two modules.

I didn't want to be a contortionist if the AHARS needed repair so I went this route. This is 2 ADAHRS mounted to the Dynon bracket.
