Adding Second Skyview And Most Avionics

I am doing a remodel of my avionics system. It previously had a single Skyview and some antique Garmin avionics equipment.

I am adding a second Skyview and removing all of the antique Garmin stuff and adding a Garmin GTN-650 and the Dynon comm radio Dynon autopilot, Dynon transponder, and the new Dynon ADS-B dual band unit.

How does this work when my existing dynon system gets powered up and all of this different equipment is connected... what will it do?

Should I try to add all of the new equipment to the existing dynon programming set up or would it be better to just start from scratch? If it is better to start from scratch then how do I reset my old dynon SV-1000 to factory condition?

Any advice and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You are going to have to rewire the serial ports (if they were used) and re configure them so whether you start from scratch or not you still have to carefully configure stuff. You probably don't want to wipe out the EMS configuration. It won't change.

I would just add the new stuff and systematically check that it is configured and working correctly.

You'll basically want to go through all of the installation steps from the manual for the relevant pieces of the new equipment (and skim the first parts that explain system architecture and how things are set up and configured more generally.). From your list, the transponder, ads-b, and comm radio are all serial devices from SkyView's perspective. That has some specific general setup steps, and then there are device-specific configurations that you'll need to complete. The autopilot servos are SkyView Network devices - they're detected by the system by performing a fresh SkyView Network configuration. I wouldn't recommend starting from scratch. Just make the changes. SkyView's basically designed to work well in this scenario.

My dual band Skyview Receiver SV-472 is scheduled for delivery on Monday the 8th. I will install it on Tuesday so should be able to report performance early/mid next week. I too was very early ordering so am near first in the queue.

The dual band receiver arrived Monday. I installed it on Tuesday and gave it a short test flight. All went well but there was no way to determine if the traffic I was seeing on my display was 1090 airplane to airplane or re broadcast from the Tucson ADS-B tower. I'll give it a better test next week when I fly to an area that is mountain shadowed from the Tucson tower. The installation was simple. The smaller size of the new Dynon SV-472 insured that it would fit. The only concern I had going in was that the two connectors were at opposite ends of the unit instead of being side by side as on the single band receiver. However there was enough slack in the antenna connecter cable and the 9 pin connector cable to make the connections without having to extend. The set-up was also drop-dead simple. Just followed the instructions to tell my Skyview D1000 that the SV-472 was now feeding the appropriate serial port instead of the SV-470. I had previously installed V15.1.0 which is required to run the SV-472.

Dwight,

Thanks for the report. There is only one antenna required... are there circumstances where one (me) would prefer a 1090 antenna or a 570 antenna? Mounted on the top or the bottom?

Any transponder antenna will work. Aircraft Spruce has one listed for ADS-B in, which I purchased.

I asked the same question about a top mounted antenna. Dynon said it is not needed.
