Does Skyview provide audible voice announcements of ones altitude as one decends for landing. If so, what is the lowest altitude one can set for audible announcements?

You can set an altitude bug or an MDA bug, both of which provide an "approaching" callout and an "at" callout. These are absolute altitudes, not distance above the ground, so they can be set to any altitude. You set these manually for the airport or approach you are flying.

We don't do a "height above ground" alert.

Yep, you can set the altitude and or MDA (minimums) bugs, and you'll get alerts as you approach the altitudes (both bug), and on the MDA bug you'll get a "minimums" callout when you actually hit the altitude. There are no restrictions on the altitudes that you can set them to. The precise behaviors of the alerts are documented in the SkyView Pilot's User Guide, which you can find at docs.dynonavionics.com.

I am not sure if this is the same thing, but I get a 500 ft call out on approach at 500 ft above the airport elevation.  I haven't investigated if this can be set to another height but it is handy also.

I do have a Garmin 495 connected to audio- but never though about that being the 500 ft alert.

Now I'll have to check

My 495 gives the 500 foot call out only if I'm landing at an airport in the database, otherwise it gives a "terrain terrain pull up pull up"warning. Maybe you're missing the runway? Are you able to see over the front of that bird on flare? ;D ;D

I have my magnificent Pocket FMS Runway showing on my PDF page complete with Piano Keys and Centre Line. (I measured it, did co-ordinates, and Pocket FMS did the rest.

With flaps down, I fly right over my visible reference point, so never lose vision with the runway. ;D ;D

Some of us fly out of unmarked private strips not on the database, we don't all use "approved" airports - turns out the airplane doesn't know the difference. I have to select "inhibit" in my 172 for the terrain awareness system at my home strip for the same reason.

My strip wasn't shown on charts, so that was the purpose in forwarding all the info to Pocket FMS so they could include it on theirs.

Other than the odd trip, I tend to land mostly on small private strips that are rarely shown on charts or databases. I must admit though that it's super when going to a licensed airport and getting all the information on nearest and info prior to joining and then the runway on the Skyview map and PFD!

Best regards

The 500 foot warning only happens if you are landing at an airport that is in the Garmin database. You won't get that warning if the airport is in the PocketFMS database but not in the Garmin database. You will get the "terrain pull up" warning from the Garmin unit if you land at a strip that's not in the Garmin database. I lost the database on my GPS495 trying to update it so I was getting the "terrain pull up" warning on every landing (CYXE included) until I got it fixed.

I have to select "inhibit" in my 172 for the terrain awareness system
Try flying through mountains or up a river valley. I turn my Garmin voice alerts off on those occasions. But it's cool to see the thousands of little x's along the bank where the Garmin GPS thinks you are going to CFIT.
