AOA Calibration Questions

For the airwork portion of calibrating the AOA, the instructions say to set up a "fast cruise" configuration, then oscillate up and down 5 degrees 4 times. Then it says to perform one stall.

Does it want a power on stall from that high speed cruise speed? Going 200mph, You would be climbing awfully fast and high until the stall. Or would you just reduce power and try to hold altitude like normal?

It goes on to say if you want to do additional stall configurations, reconfigure to do so.

The instructions just want a normal, power off stall after the oscillations. I slowed all the way down to a full flap configuration and the calibration worked fine.

I did one power off stall with full flaps and one with no flaps. AOA kicks in just before touchdown (right at the stall) so I plan to re-calibrate with no flaps only and see if it will provide more notification of impending stall.

Thanks! Maybe 1/2 Flaps?

I did my calibration power off at 1/2 flaps.

FWIW: I approach and land with full flaps keeping the audible tone just off until I start the flare. At that point I close the throttle and pull the nose up enough so the audible tone just starts coming on. I keep the nose up with the tone getting faster and faster until a microsecond before the tone goes solid (at least it seems that way to me) my mains smoothly touch down. Don't ask me what speed I am landing at because I use the AOA tone instead. Prior to this calibration my landings had been OK at best. Now I can "grease" it in almost every time. YMMV

I still don't understand why Dynon hasn't incorporated flap setting into the AOA indication. There's no reason this can't be done, and it would greatly improve the utility of the AOA/stall warning.

This is how I want mine to work and it seemed to until I installed the gear fairings and wheel pants. Now it starts to beep just prior to stall, if at all.
