When using the EMS 220 and "Van's capacitance plates, I see I can connect the capacitance wires to pin 22 and 23 on the EMS connector. Do I need to use a capacitance to voltage converter to do that? Or do I just attach a BNC connector to the end of the EMS wire and hook it to the plate wire which is a BNC connector.

Below is a link to the Dynon version of the converter. There are others, as well.

Where do three wires go? I bought the converters and was expecting just one wire from it to connect to pins 22 and 23 in the EMS but the converter comes with three wires. Please, does anyone know what the two extra wires are for? Or might some know where documentation is on this and its 3 wires?

The converter requires voltage and a ground, which are the other two wires.

See page 15-8 in rev AC of the installation manual for more detailed information.

Which installation guide? I've got EMS 220 guide and it doesn't show it nor have a page 15-8. Wording from manual shown below says "Connect to EMS for power?" What?

But are you saying if I just tap into 12V someplace with the red wire and ground the black wire that it will work fine. And the white wire goes to pin 22 on EMS?

It requires 10 Vdc to 15 Vdc for power and draws minimal current. We recommend that you connect the capacitance-to-voltage converter to the SV-EMS-220 for power as shown in the table below, but it will also work properly when connected directly to standard 12 volt aircraft power. [/color]

Steve,

Sorry, I should have been more clear and wasn't aware there is a separate EMS installation manual.

The full Dynon manual can be found at this link.

http://dynonavionics.com/public_html/yabbfiles/Attachments/SkyView_System_Installation_Guide-Rev_AD_v15_3.pdf

The above link will only work for the current version. For future readers, the documentation link is:

http://www.dynonavionics.com/skyview-documentation.php

As depicted in the manual, you'll want to power both units from pin 15 of the EMS-220, which will keep the units working if you lose ship power and are relying on the Dynon battery backup. If you have a different battery backup configuration, you'd want to power them from that solution.

Thanks, I get it now. Truly appreciated. I also just received this from Dynon via Spruce.

t looks like we are missing a Table in Section 12 of the SkyView Installation Guide. It should show something like this:

CONVERTER WIRE: Black
SV-EMS-220 D37 PINS: Any of 5,13,16,17 or 20
FUNCTION: Ground

CONVERTER WIRE: White
SV-EMS-220 D37 PINS: And one or two of 8,22, or 31
FUNCTION: Capacitive Converter Output 0-5 V (One or two.)

CONVERTER WIRE: Red
SV-EMS-220 D37 PIN: 15
FUNCTION: Power 12VDC from SkyView
