Excellent point, well made. It would be very nice if those RS232 inputs were as you've shown. Maybe they were not on the diagram I pasted because they are just not used in a normal radio set up. I agree that Pin 5 and a ground may well allow the Bluetooth dongle to do its job. Only one real way to find out :)

Looking at the HDX wiring diagram documentation, it shows pins 5&6 being used as data Tx & Rx from the SVCom Panel. It’s possible that the com panel is basically the same as the TC90, just packaged differently.

It goes beyond the simple physical connection. The structure of the data itself may not be compatible. But I like where you're going with this.

Because of Dynon's refusal to incorporate an integrated intercom into their radio, I am fortunate in having the TC90 controller and a TY91 radio, linked to my HDX. I will eventually get round to installing the BT dongle for the autopilot and, maybe, the radio. I often use the radio transfer facility from my HDX, so I'm not really sure what difference doing it from SkyDemon would make.

On the other hand I may just do it because I like gadgets :D

Most aircraft radios do not have intercoms incorporated. Dynon's lack of doing so is hardly notable.

Totally agree re data structure.

On reviewing the Dynon installation manual for 3rd party devices it looks like the HDX screen RS232 interface uses standard NMEA 0183 protocols that match the output from SkyDemon so it should work with no issue. If you're using the BLE module to connect to the AP as well you would need to reconfigure the baud rate to 9600 as per the TY91 installation documentation below.

It looks like everything aligns... and if the weather wasn't so dire here I'd go to the airfield and investigate.

Although the screen below relates to the Autopilot messages transmitted from SD it matches the standard NMEA sentences that the HDX uses.

For me, the lack of a 'memory' function to store frequently used frequencies within the HDX is a little limiting so having the ability to touch the relevant frequency in SD and dialling the HDX up would be useful. I believe the TC90 can store 100 frequencies so may not be so useful in your setting.

However, like you I also like the 'gadget' part of this and would like to get it working. I'm so impressed with the SD/AP link, it's very convenient and I think will be too.

What vertical nav data will be sent from SlyDemon? There’s no approach information as it’s a navigation app, not an FMC.
I was thinking that SD could send height information much like the heading information along the route with a view that the data could initiate a climb of descent however I hadn't really given much thought on how (or if) it could work to be honest.
