Easier METAR Info

On my last flight, i was reminded how painful it is to get METAR info from the map. Would it be possible to add the METAR info to an airport's bubble info? Or something similar?

For instance, i want to get a wide area of cloud base information. I go to MAP and the color coding is certainly helpful. However, I have 5 airports in an area all blue. I want to see what the reported clouds are.

Right now, you have to select the airport, INFO, click right about 4 times to the WX tab. Then read through an entire page of wx detail. Then BACK once or twice to the MAP. Repeat. Painful!

Or you to cursor to near the airport, hit NRST, click right only 1 time to the WX tab. Then scroll thru the list of airports, but you lose the context of the MAP. Then BACK once or twice to the MAP again. Slightly better but you would hope there is an easier way than this too!

It sure would be nice to just go to the MAP page, touch the airport, info bubble shows METAR under the airspace. Touch another airport, info bubble shows METAR. All while never leaving the MAP screen.

What do you guys think?

I would rather see Dynon devote their resources to other more important improvements.
Like . . . a setting . . . which allows changes, to font colors/sizes, on the "Map Info" blocks.

Wow. I thought the message count would have exploded by now! Nobody else has an opinion???

This is how the Garmin Perspective does it. Available metars indicated by a small flag. Hover over the flag to get the metar. Never losing the map context.

skyvector.com does the same thing. Popup metar info.

wmince, i agree that the MAP needs some better legibility issues taken care of. Search my history for multiple posts i have made about it. AFAIK, you have the ability to change many different types of colors. i wouldn't be surprised if you could already do that now. not entirely sure about size.

Maybe Mmarien can comment. He has posted about manual changes that can be made in this regard. unfortunately, i think it's a more complicated issue than simply displaying a METAR sentence.

I would like to see the METAR pop up with cursor. A lot of information without wearing down the buttons.

No comment on the weather information as we don't have ADS-B in Canada :-/ Best we have if Foreflight with a 4G iPad but don't tell anyone I said 4G and inflight weather together.

I haven't looked at the colors on the map that closely. Dynon mentioned that they can all be manually modified. Export your settings file and look for a section called map_bling={ in the DFG file that is exported. You can open the file with any text editor. Deciphering the parameters may take some experimentation.

Some of the darker text would probably be easier to read if they had a white outline but not sure if that can be done. All the lettering seems to be outlined in black.

Looks like a winter project.
