It may be sour grapes but why should the tax payers subsidize our toys? How much is the administrative cost for each rebate? How many VOR stations could be repaired and kept in service. The real gift would to be to allow more Dynon equipment to be installed in certified aircraft. This would cost the taxpayer little and benefit all those folks tired of buying vacuum pumps and overhauling aging gyros. Yes I know the D10 is STC'd, TruTrak is working on getting their AP approved in a 172 so it's slowly coming.
My ADSB rebate was ditching XM weather. I love my Skyview!

We have spoken with the FAA about this rebate, and only one situation with the Dynon equipment is eligible:

You must add the transponder AND a TSO'd GPS at the same time.

You cannot have ever flown the plane with the Dynon transponder before, regardless of the GPS connected.

You cannot use the SV-GPS-2020 as it is not fully compliant with AC-165, which is carries a bunch of additional requirements not required by the FARs.

You cannot use this on new aircraft as the plane must have first been registered before Jan 1 2016.

That's the rules as they were explained to us.

I am one that has already bought all the 2020 stuff.  Somehow it seems all kinds of wrong to penalize we who went ahead and complied, then to reward those that have not yet wished to comply.  Am I the only one that has that thinking problem?

I tend to be an early adopter, and I don't begrudge someone waiting until later in the hopes that prices drop, etc., but yeah...there's something kind of annoying about a "rebate" (it's not a rebate...it's a giveaway) when people will have had *years* to plan and save for the required upgrade.

And now looking at the rules they have in place (see post by Dynon just above)...sure seems arbitrary.

Are these additional performance based requirements, lack of additional data transmitted, or paperwork?

Broadly speaking, paperwork. Just graze the AC to see for yourself: http://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Advisory_Circular/AC_20-165B.pdf

OK, the SV-GPS-2020 will not work with the rebate. What GPS do you recommend that is DYnon Skyview compatible and will get the rebate?
Is it now more cost effective to go with one of the combined units such as the Garmin?
Dynon we seem to have a problem!

We do not know of a standalone GPS that is less than $500 more than our SV-GPS-2020 that qualifies. Dynon's SV-GPS-2020 is so inexpensive that you would actually lose money getting $500 back on any other product.

Plus, remember this would only count if you upgraded to our transponder and that GPS at the same time, in an already flying airplane. New airplanes or airplanes already with our transponder will never qualify.

I found the Dynon on the FAA website.

http://www.faa.gov/nextgen/equipadsb/equipment/

It shows the SV-XPNDR-261 is approved with something like a garmin, etc. That all applies to me, and the dates of install, etc.

However, when I go to "reserve" the rebate, the drop down box for the equipment doesn't show the 261. It does however say the Trig TT22 (which dynon says the 261 is a modified version).

I'm assuming that if I select the Trig TT22, I'll be set, but wanted to make sure from the Dynon folks if this is indeed the case before I sign my life away that I could be committing fraud to the government :)
