We are very close to the first flight of my Bearhawk Model B (4 Place) which is equipped with the Skyview HDX. Are there any suggested system set up procedures for a first flight? I ask because I have heard about Skyview alarms and alerts going off distracting from pilotage. Just looking to avoid as many distractions as possible on the first flight.

At some point I will need to perform the inflight ADAHRS, Mag Heading, AOA and Auto Pilot calibrations. Should I do this on the first flight? Or wait? I have a new engine with 3 hours on the test stand and about an hour in ground run. I've been told to run the engine 70%+ power on the first flight, and possibly subsequent flights until we know the engine is broke in.

You should be running at 75% power or higher and well ROP to control temps. I try to run at 80% power to ensure good ring to barrel break-in. If you do the ground compass calibration (no engine run needed), you should be fine for the first flight. I wouldn't worry about AOA cal or autopilot tweaking until the engine is broken in.

Recommend doing a least a couple of landing configuration stalls on the first flight so you can verify your “over the fence” IAS (as in something above your now observed stall speed). Do this at ~4000’AGL.

As you are doing these stalls anyway, do your initial calibration for the AOA. It is just a push button after your stall.

Limit first flight to 20-30 minutes. Land, pull the cowl and do a careful inspection for leaks, stuff rubbing and such. Call it a day and go have an few adult beverages to celebrate. The following flights you start your formal flight test program (as in make up you fight test cards ahead of time).

I did my first flight not long ago I didn’t change much of the default settings and it was not distracting at all.. I did change a few things to fit my preference as time goes by. If your like me the first fl will be much better than you might expect

Accomplished my first flight with my HDX SYSTEM. Need to tweek some of the yellow/green/red ranges on engine instruments and get used to where some of the information is displayed - but it all worked! Swapped my two comm radios up to the higher position for better visibility. NEED THE AUTOPILOT to get approved so I can relax and study other tweaks that need to be made!

That’s a beautiful panel! Can you control the Val nav radio from the dynon? I wish I had that sort of real estate.

No. Must tune VAL itself and adjust OBS with its knob. Wanted to use the VAL remote unit but Dynon (at the moment) only sends frequency to standby position with no means of flip-flopping the remote. Now that I think about it, maybe I can send freq to then VAL stby position from HDX - will have to try it!

I’m able to send and flip flop standby and active frequency’s to my GNC255 including Nav Channels from the Dynon.. have you tried selecting a nav channel from the info page that has Nav frequencies to select and tune that would at least make it a bit easer?
