Anyone using one of the above with SV? How do you like it? and if using a Garmin 430w does SV  send a FP to it with airways??

430 W worked well with Skyview. However 430W does not fly airways, only fix to fix unlike 480

I have a GNS 480 working with a Skyview in a Glasair. They integrate perfectly. I can answer questions if you like. The system has been flying for just under 2 years.

I also have a GNS 480 working with Skyview in my RV9. Amazing combination. The 480 cannot receive flight plans from Skyview (I don't think any of the GPS navigators will), but Skyview does show the FP that's active in the 480.

Sounds like there's a couple of us who can help with setup questions. :)

I will be talking to you guys. I'm about to pick one up in a couple of weeks. I have a KLN-90B that will not turn on anymore and I was told to dump it.

Do you both use the built in radio on the 480? I have an SL-30 I enjoy. So if the 480 radio works well I may remove the SL-30.

Yes, I use the com radio of the GNS480. It's a great com.

That said, if you can fit both the 480 and SL30 in your panel, that would be a powerful redundant backup. The 480 will communicate with Skyview through the ARINC box, and the SL30 can stay on the serial lines. Install a second com antenna and either a new wingtip VOR/GS antenna or split your existing VOR/GS to both boxes, and you're all set.

Also using the com in the 480. Wish I could find another 480 for another plane.

I wonder which setting you are using for ARINC429 output of the GPS in order to have both the GNS480 flight plan depiction on Skyview and autopilot output.

Based on the installation manual rev M (software V2.4) section 2.8.10.2.2, in order to have full flight plan depiction (with curves and holding patterns), you need to select configuration 8 (GAMA GFX) or 9 (GAMA GFX Int) but these don't provide the horizontal command to autopilot (label 121). For that you need to select options 1,2,3 or 7 and none of these provide full flight plan depiction labels.
Same information was in the installation manual rev L (software V2.3).

Also, I see nowhere a reference to label 100P in the GNS80 installation manual in order to enable automatic switch between GPS and ILS.

So which configuration are you using?

I am still with a double D10A (EFIS+HSI) and HS34 connected to the GNS480 in my plane but willing to move to Skyview in order to enable a real IFR autopilot and other fancy depictions, so cannot test these different configurations at this time.

The GNS480 is well supported by Garmin. They just released V2.4 with ADSB interface to their transponders.

Nobody on my previous question:

Jacques, when I first started flying my RV, I was having a problem where everything worked great except the GNS480 flight plan wouldn't show up in the Skyview FP page. Setting the ARINC output on the GNS480 to "GAMA 429" solved this and everything has worked perfectly since. It had been set to "ARINC 429", which didn't pass the flight plan. I think "GAMA 429 NO FP" will also cause problems.

Many thanks krw5927.

Does the Gama 429 setting provide roll steering to the AP (GPSS instead of GPS)? According to the Garmin 480 install manual, there is no label 121 in with this setting and so no GPSS mode.

Also, do you get depiction of holds and DME arc with this setting?

Interesting, yes I see that in Rev L installation manual.  Sure seems to work just fine.  Yes, holds, course reversals, arcs, everything is depicted.

It's just a software setting, give it a try.

Edit:

Someone at the link below seems to indicate label 121 is transmitted in all GAMA configs of the GNS480. I bet he's right.

Also, the G***** G3X installation manual recommends use of the GAMA 429 setting when configuring the GNS480 for use with the that system. I wouldn't see why that would be different from what Skyview needs.

Hello... I just bought a GNS 480 and will be installing it soon. I have already been studying the install manual and pin outs. I was hoping someone has already gone through this and has a pin out diagram made out for the 480, to Skyview, ARINC....etc.. If so, please contact me offline, rlallen1@gmail.com. Much appreciated.

thx ryan allen
