I have seen the GPS antennas (one Dynon, one Garmin) installed under the fiberglass cowling with no issues.

I have the GPS-250 and 2020 installed on the glare shield in my -7A slider. The reflection off the windshield is a problem I have yet to solve in a visually appealing way. Right now I have some black cloth draped over them that is held with Velcro to the glare shield fabric.

You need to do some testing to make sure everything works... but on my RV-8 I mounted initially a GPS250 under the cowl as you describe. Then I upgraded to the GPS 2020 in the same location and it works fine too!

Question: I have an all-wood aircraft (GP-4). I have followed the designer's plan of keeping all antennae inside airframe structure and used copper strips of specific size and layout for all my equipment. Can I place the Dynon GPS 2020 antenna without restriction inside my fuselage? Is the copper tape an issue?

John

I have a Glasair (all fiberglass) with antennas of the same type you are using. All antennas are internal and work well. Three GPS receivers do not seem to care about the foil.

Can I mount the Dynon GPS2020 antenna under the fiberglass engine cowl of my RV-7A, just in front of the firewall, about an inch or two below the fiberglass?  And can I mount a GNS430 GPS antenna right next to it?

Will the GPS antenna's receive signal okay thru fiberglass?
Will engine compartment temperatures be too high for GPS antennas?
Will two GPS antenna's installed next to each other cause interference with each other?

Sorry, if you answered this already.  I can't find it.
I'm building a bracket now.  Advanced Sys. is working on quick panel.

thanks

My RV4 has the Skyview GPS 250 mounted on the top of the engine side of the firewall under the cowl. GPS performance has always been excellent and the heat does not appear to be an issue.

I have a 9A with the Dynon 2020 GPS and Garmin 430W mounted on a shelf just forward of the firewall under the fiberglass cowl, and I get excellent service on both receivers. Just make sure you don't use a metallic pigment in your paint, and make sure that wherever you mount them is far enough forward of your firewall so that it is not masked by the metal backing strip in your top cowl for the hinge-pins or quarter-turn fasteners where they attach to the firewall.
