I'm shopping for an ELT for my RV-8. Some units have a built-in GPS; others can accept data from the plane's GPS.
How easy/difficult is it to get my SkyView, with GPS-2020, to connect to an ELT?

If you have an unused serial port on your SkyView display, connect Serial 1, 2, 3, or 4 TX to the ELT and set the serial port TX to NMEA BASIC.

Note that not every ELT that supports a GPS input supports NMEA however. Some require AVIATION format which SkyView cannot output.

From my memory, Kannad, ACK, and AeroFix can use NMEA but Ameri-King needs AVIATION.

For an ARTEX 345 ELT that accepts 0183 NMEA, should the serial output be set to NMEA (Basic) or NMEA OUT (FULL)?

I assume 4800 baud since the Aviation format is 9600 and not yet supported.

Here is their statement in the install manual. Just want a second opinion to ensure I set it up correctly.

RS-232 Acceptable Nav Data
1) NMEA 0183 baud rate is 4800.
2) Aviation protocol baud rate is 9600.
3) Programing of the ELT 345 will determine the input of 4800 baud NMEA navigation data or 9600 baud Aviation
protocol navigation data.
4) The ELT 345 will parse GGA, GLL and RMC simultaneously. Output configurations that write GGA, GLL or RMC
sentences at 4800 baud as specified in NMEA 0183 will be suitable.
5) GPGGA is recommended if available.

NMEA OUT (BASIC) serial output data consists of GGA, GSA, GSV, RMC, and VTG sentences nominally output at a rate of 1 Hz, so that should work at 4800 baud.
