loss of EDC10 communication

System is D180, AP74, one SV32 on the DSAB.

RV-9A in my garage.  Everything communicating 100% up until Saturday, when 'beep beep'  - enough to make me look up.  EDC10A comm error, loss of compass, loss of oat.  Powering off the D180 did not resolve.  DSAB is up and running fine (not expecting to be a factor).  I did the D3 EDC bulletin (I was in the range) months ago.

Searching (5 min) did not find me a direct answer in the forum.

1.  I will try to disconnect the EDC while the D180 is up and running, to see if there is some hot boot (?) thing going on.  At the same time I will carefully check power and ground to the EDC.

Any other thoughts?

2.  I will upload 5.4.  I'm at 5.3 right now.  I'n not expecting this to help, since all elements were functional at 5.3 for months.

Info question:  The EDC cable is shielded.  Does my Dynon-supplied harness have the shielding grounded in the D180 connector?  I added a shield ground at the EDC and think that may be not required/not desired.

Thanks, Rick

If all of the DSAB devices are still there, and both the heading and OAT are gone, it's probably either a failed EDC-D10A or a wiring issue to it. The harnesses we retail happen to have a shield that terminates in that black/white stub at the 25 pin end. You can just ground that. Strictly speaking, it's not required though (the vendor added it on their own, and it also doesn't hurt things).

The issue grows more interesting.  The EDC10A comes back with extended off time.  The EDC then drops out with extended (30 min or greater) on time.  I don't think this is wiring.

Power, gross wiring inspection all ok.

Read thread, checked pins . . . The only issue I can find is I grounded the shield at both ends.

60 deg F in the garage, running from a lab grade power supply running at less than a third of it's current capacity.

All comms are OFF.

Ok, I'm back at this. I have updated to 5.4, no change in EDC 10 behaviour - it's fine at power up, but sometime between 10 minutes and an hour, the D180 flags the 'lost esternal compass" (paraphrased). Pins look good - I used a good crimper. I revised the shield grounding (now grouned only one end, at the D180), no change.

Remember, the a/c is in my garage at home, wings and tail off. Power is now from batt with a p/s maintaining voltage.

Thoughts? Rick

Give us a call when you get a chance. It might be time to look at some of the hardware.
