Shunt location vs capacitor

I am mating a Skyview HDX to a UL350. The main wiring has a 68k uf capacitor across the battery terminals but the positive tie in can be anywhere along the regulator output line to the load side of the master contactor. My question is whether or not it matters to the Skyview if the capacitor tie in point along regulator output line is before or after the Dynon shunt. The capacitor’s job is to flatten out the power curve should the battery fault or go dead and allow alternator to feed the fuel pumps and ECU.

Just wondering. If the capacitor is across the battery terminals and battery is fried it would be assumed one would open the battery contactor. Would not the capacitor be out of the alternator charge circuit?

Ned is correct, your capacitor should be on the outgoing alternator charge circuit to clean the DC current and the shunt is installed someplace after that. I had a UL350 with a dynon system in my previous Highlander.

Yeah, the UL diagram doesn’t show a contactor. Ray Lawrence confirmed that the positive lead should go on the load side of the contactor as to function without the battery. I too think that the capacitor should tie into the line before the shunt as you guys suggest.

Steve, where did you place the shunt? I plan on having mine between the regulator and contactor so as to know if the alternator fails immediately.
