Skyview 7.0 screenshot issue

I loaded firmware 7.0 on my two skyview displays. Now the screenshot function is not working anymore. The screen shows "screenshot in progress" (or similar) all time after pushing button 2 and 7. Same thing on both screens. Restart doesn´t help!
Is there a known bug? What to do? Load the firmware again?

We've had a few issues with screenshots in 7.0. It's been hard to track down since it seems to work on most systems, most of the time, but also has issues on other configurations. Re-Loading the software won't help. Playing with different USB sticks or screen configurations might help and we'd be happy for any insight you have.

We're looking into it and hopefully we can clean it up in the next release.

Thanks for the reply.
So I hope for a soon update release. The USB sticks worked flawlessly til now and screen configuration change is no option for me because I just want to review special datas - or combination thereof.
Can I reload firmware 6.2 ??

For what it is worth, this had me worried. I upgraded to 7.0 yesterday, and just went out and did a screen shot, no problems at all.

SuperCub - We'd suggest trying a different USB stick, if you're able to. What brand/size/etc are you using now?

O.k. will do that. I will be able to check things again on Monday and report thereafter.

Another datapoint, screenshot worked okay for me using the original Dynon supplied USB stick.

I tried two different USB sticks. In both cases (One a Kingston the other the Dynon USB, that always worked with 6.2) I get the "screenshot in progress" that will not go away.
On the ground I was able to get it to work, took longer to work.
Also anothe datapoint- I used to get a error when no stick was inserted and I tried to take a picture- no error just the "screenshot in progress" message now when I did not have the USB stick inserted (moved stick to the other display to upgrade firmware)
Never worked in the air- with or without a USB inserted
was able to get it to work on the ground.
Never had an issue before with the USB and 6.2 I took the picture with 6.2, upgraded and tried with 7.0, which was much slower all the same day with the same USB stick.

Now I did try several USB sticks including the supplied white 4GB sticks with the Dynon Avionics label on it. It was all the same: "SCREENSHOT IN PROGRESS" which doesn´t go away.

I downloaded the 7.0 firmware again onto a differnt USB stick, but the display says this firmware is the same or older and so it doesn´t overwrite the firmware.
I see there are other members having the same issue.

Used three different sticks. Worked on battery power 1 time, did not work when powered on and/nor other display is powered on any of the three sticks (rebooted each time). All seems to work normally on PFD, just the banner reamins as if hung.
When it did work (1 x) it sensed no stick was plugged in, worked fine when plugged in. When it did not, it does not report when the stick is missing. Regardless of stick used or if plugged in,  I get same results as Supercub.
Have diagnostic data if that would help with this.
As mentioned previously, never had an issue before 7.0

Dynon, you can put me down as another member of the "Screenshot in Progress" club.  Not asking for any support: just want to share my experience.  7.0 software, 8 GB USB flash drive.

I've encountered it on the last two flights but never before.  Always used this one particular flash drive but will procure another for the next flight.

Cycling the Skyview power in flight got rid of the error message until the next time I attempted a screenshot :-(

====================

Appended (a few hours later): I just tried two additional USB flash drives -- fail.  They had worked in the past.   I'm in agreement with reidvaitor in reply #11 (below) when he says "I doubt the USB stick is the issue."

I checked my files and have not had a successful screenshot since updating to 7.0.

Jdubner;
I tried three different USB sticks. One always worked before, and actually was the same one I used to download datalogs after the flight and also the diagnostic files. I used the stick on my computer to analyze the data with Savvyanalysis from the last flight, data was solid. The stick works for everything BUT the screenshot. It hangs consistently with the "screenshot in progress".
One point I also added before, when taking a screenshot it should look for the USB stick, it used to and it did it the one time it worked on battery power, (indicated by an error if the stick is not plugged in)but does not see a stick or look for it with the screenshot hang, so I doubt the USB stick is the issue.

Yep - we know we have a bug here, but we were hoping that using a different USB stick might help some of you that are running into it. We don't have a root cause for this yet, but some people see it all the time, while some systems don't experience it at all.

I had earliier replied that mine had no problems.  For some reason now it does!
I have used three sticks, same on all of them.  Strange part is that when I tried it right after downloading 7.0, it worked perfectly.  Mighty strange bug for sure.
I know that most people never ran a screenshot and don't even know how, so this might be more widespread than this forum indicates.

Any update on troubleshooting this? If you need someone with the issue for a test bed, let me know.
Thx

We have replicated this here and understand it. A fix will be in the next software release.

The chance of this happening is just random chance every boot. If you really need to take a screenshot, rebooting will sometimes help, and if it works once in a boot cycle, it will work every time. If it fails once, it will fail every time. So you can keep rebooting until a screenshot works if you need to.

Sorry for the issue here. We had no idea so many people used the screenshot feature! I keep joking we should break one feature per release just to see how many people use it ;)

This gets said from time to time but I'd like to do it again here.

Putting out software release after software release for free on an incredibly complicated system is not easy and little bugs always seem to creep in. Thanks for your efforts to keep your products fresh and kill the PITAs that pop up.

I had the stuck "Screenshot in Progress" message Saturday with a SanDisk 16 gb thumb drive inserted. I finally rebooted.

I also had two screen problems.

1) I de-selected PFD and MAP to look at all the engine instrument readings and the left side of the screen, where I usually have PFD, had a green tint to it. I rebooted SkyView and the tint went away.

2) later the same day, after flying, I had SkyView running on the backup battery adjusting settings and the screen went blank. I turned the Master Switch on and off to cycle power but nothing changed. I could hear the fan running so I knew SkyView was still on. I finally disconnected the battery, reconnected it and booted SkyView up. It came up fine and shutdown fine and did not freeze while I was in setup mode.

I downloaded the diagnostic file and will send it to you if would help.

I finally had the same issue happen to me this weekend. The good thing is that the rest of the EFIS and display functions normally. The message is just an annoyance.

However, previous to 5.0 or so, after a screenshot, the EFIS display itself would freeze. It takes a few seconds to realize that nothing is moving. That is a much worse error, but fortunately, i haven't had that happen for quite some time now.

The whole reason screenshots got changed was to fix the screen pausing issue (in our experience, it would always come back after a few seconds). So that issue should be gone. Please report it if you do see it again.
